iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

Every device logged into the same AppleID will be treated as a single device, and information will be shared between them just as apps are.

Apple generally doesn't issue "clarifying statements" but feel free to ask for one at the link below.

Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Thanks for replying.

few years ago I looked for a way to stop sharing call history between same Apple ID Devices, and I learned that if I turn off contacts sync on my device it will stop sharing the call log, so I did that and it was all good since iOS 13, but now it is different

if users want to share call history, they can turn on iCloud contacts sync.

Apparently, that is not the way Apple sees it. Apple seems largely unconcerned if changes they make cause workarounds for sharing Apple IDs to stop working. Their stance has been quite clear that Apple IDs are intended to be used by one person only.

You can certainly let them know your thoughts here:

But, I seriously don't expect this to change.

im using MY Apple ID on MY PHONES

Yes, and Apple designed the system to sync call history between multiple phones belonging to the same person.

See:

"We offer call history syncing as a convenience to our customers so that they can return calls from any of their devices," an Apple spokesperson told iMore.

View and delete the call history on your iPhone - Apple Support

"To keep call history up to date across all devices, turn on iCloud Drive."

So apparently the official way to prevent syncing is to turn off iCloud Drive.

There was also a suggestion on a reddit thread to go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off the People Can Contact You On All Devices switch. It wasn't clear why doing that would have that side effect (or whether that side effect was a bug). Normally the use for that switch would be to allow iPads, iPad touches, and Macs on the same Apple ID as a nearby iPhone to place cellular calls with the aid of that iPhone.

Hi everyone.

This is most annoing bug ever. I have my private IPhone and my business iPhone. I've turned off all iCloud items synch on my business phone because I have business exchange account which I use for contacts, calendars and etc. I use only my Apple ID because of thousend apps and subscriptions that I'm paying. And I really don't agree that you have to use separate ids for different devices if all of them are yours. Also I don't believe that there Is official statement from Apple regarding that. I understand very well the idea if couple is using same Apple ID and that is not ok. But in my case my wife has her own id and I need to use my id only for me but without synching both device data like recent calls. One more thing... Why we have an option in iCloud settings "Phone" which is also off in my private and business iPhones if this option is not working?! I don't understand what else than synching recent calls is this option in iCloud. I hope that Apple will finally fix this annoying bug or will release an official statement how is correct to use private and business phone by your own. >:( >:( >:(

That is really a problem. I have the same ID with my wife and dont want her to see my call history.

Apple has been pretty clear that Apple IDs are intended for use by one person only. While they don't "enforce" that, nor do they seem particularly concerned if, as a by-product of other changes, it becomes harder to share one. You can certainly submit feedback to Apple but, in this case, I don't think it will do much good.

The most sure solution is for you and your spouse to each have your own Apple ID. You can share purchased content using Family Sharing.

I'm not "close minded". There is nothing to correct.

It's working the way it should.

Oh, and by the way, as someone who has worked in corporate ID for over 30 years, I can say without reservation that using your personal Apple ID, or putting ANY personal data on company owned devices is a terrible, bad, horrible idea.

don't do it.

Your employer can create a managed ID for you using your corporate email account if they want. It won't cost them a dime.

Crap, you did that. I had sent out a message for people to IM me, but my posts were getting deleted. I would walk them through the steps to correct that bug. What you did is unacceptable IMO, and should not have been necessary. I noticed you asked me to post on reddit. I’m not on there and truthfully, this is the first time I came to a site like this for help.

Me and my father Share same Apple ID and we are a bit concerned with this bug, of call log sharing, please help! If anybody has a solution. Fed up with it We both Can’t differentiate whose missed the calls actually!!!😏

It's not a bug. It is your new normal. And the only correct solution is two different people should NOT share an Apple ID. One of you needs to erase your phone and set it up with it's own unique Apple ID. Then you can use Family Sharing to share things like Apps, storage, etc.

I am deleting my comment but just an FYI, I have shared an apple id with spouse and kids for 15yrs....never any issues...And good grief, I have not put them at risk by sharing an apple id. As a parent being able to track what goes on in their phone is paramount. I am not expecting to track other kids...just my own. Also, not sure what "laws" you are referring to as I can tell you it isn't in the criminal code of Canada......again, deleting and exiting forum. I just wanted to know how to stop getting my call logs shared, not a comment on my parenting.....

Soooo, is it Apple doesn’t want us sharing IDs with others,

Do whatever you want.

An Apple ID will, however, share data among all devices logged into that Apple ID.

The mechanism to enable this sharing and to keep this data separate from others is the Apple ID.

If you do want to share data with others, sharing an Apple ID is an excellent way to share all of your data with others.

or that they don’t want us using them on more than one device?

One Apple ID works just fine across multiple devices used by the same person, including working fine for someone using multiple iPhones. You can share cut-and-paste data across devices, extend displays, transfer photos, have your passwords available across multiple devices, everything.

What doesn’t work quite so fine is sharing an Apple ID among multiple people, or sharing an Apple ID across disparate roles; a work iPhone with work data with a personal device with personal data.
