iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

That is really a problem. I have the same ID with my wife and dont want her to see my call history.

Apple has been pretty clear that Apple IDs are intended for use by one person only. While they don't "enforce" that, nor do they seem particularly concerned if, as a by-product of other changes, it becomes harder to share one. You can certainly submit feedback to Apple but, in this case, I don't think it will do much good.

The most sure solution is for you and your spouse to each have your own Apple ID. You can share purchased content using Family Sharing.

I'm not "close minded". There is nothing to correct.

It's working the way it should.

Oh, and by the way, as someone who has worked in corporate ID for over 30 years, I can say without reservation that using your personal Apple ID, or putting ANY personal data on company owned devices is a terrible, bad, horrible idea.

don't do it.

Your employer can create a managed ID for you using your corporate email account if they want. It won't cost them a dime.

Crap, you did that. I had sent out a message for people to IM me, but my posts were getting deleted. I would walk them through the steps to correct that bug. What you did is unacceptable IMO, and should not have been necessary. I noticed you asked me to post on reddit. I’m not on there and truthfully, this is the first time I came to a site like this for help.

Me and my father Share same Apple ID and we are a bit concerned with this bug, of call log sharing, please help! If anybody has a solution. Fed up with it We both Can’t differentiate whose missed the calls actually!!!😏

It's not a bug. It is your new normal. And the only correct solution is two different people should NOT share an Apple ID. One of you needs to erase your phone and set it up with it's own unique Apple ID. Then you can use Family Sharing to share things like Apps, storage, etc.

I am deleting my comment but just an FYI, I have shared an apple id with spouse and kids for 15yrs....never any issues...And good grief, I have not put them at risk by sharing an apple id. As a parent being able to track what goes on in their phone is paramount. I am not expecting to track other kids...just my own. Also, not sure what "laws" you are referring to as I can tell you it isn't in the criminal code of Canada......again, deleting and exiting forum. I just wanted to know how to stop getting my call logs shared, not a comment on my parenting.....

Soooo, is it Apple doesn’t want us sharing IDs with others,

Do whatever you want.

An Apple ID will, however, share data among all devices logged into that Apple ID.

The mechanism to enable this sharing and to keep this data separate from others is the Apple ID.

If you do want to share data with others, sharing an Apple ID is an excellent way to share all of your data with others.

or that they don’t want us using them on more than one device?

One Apple ID works just fine across multiple devices used by the same person, including working fine for someone using multiple iPhones. You can share cut-and-paste data across devices, extend displays, transfer photos, have your passwords available across multiple devices, everything.

What doesn’t work quite so fine is sharing an Apple ID among multiple people, or sharing an Apple ID across disparate roles; a work iPhone with work data with a personal device with personal data.

Sounds like Apple is lying to someone because they are also telling number of people it’s not supposed to work like that.

We're just users like you on this forum. But we've been around for years helping users when we can who awarded us points. We are not experts and we don't work for Apple. If you are waiting for someone to answer your question, you'll be waiting. Or, if you want a definitive answer, ask Apple yourself.

If you go back to the article where Apple told a third-party site that they intended to share call logs, that article was from many years and many versions of iOS ago. If the call log sharing hasn't always worked consistently – or if whether the sharing happens depends on some combination of settings that aren't immediately obvious – then there might be confusion as to what the intended behavior actually was. Including confusion among the first-line Support people.

OK so treat me like iPhone for dummies because this is my first one. It tells me every time the microphone and use every time I’m being screenshot it every time I’m being taken a picture of and listen to and located and every time I can’t get into my own profile now some of my accounts like Verizon says Hello and it has a phone number doesn’t even have my name anymore. I can’t change the settings it is me solo altogether, Home and cell phone and it’s totally being infiltrated and remotely controlled with Settings blacked out and they answered to me, is to change my password and to get security which I’ve done iCloud Digital Secure, and all that kind of thing but don’t you think if they were remotely listening and seen why wouldn’t they know what you’re telling me and I’ve even come across them to be customers support especially in a chat
<#SOSINGLE & remotely controlled.log>

I don't know who you feel is remotely controlling or hacking your phone, but that has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

This thread is about how a certain feature (call log history) behaves when one person has two or more iPhones that are associated with the same Apple ID. That is, the same person owns both phones – or is managing both using a single account (even if one is technically owned by his or her employer).

In this scenario, we are not talking about remote control, or hacking. Just about whether phones have separate call logs, or whether all the calls that either phone makes/receives show up in the history on both phones.

Your post is about is something completely different. Please start a new thread to avoid sidetracking this one.

Sounds like its worth logging calls with Apple and complaining to get this resolved

You're making an assumption that Apple views this as something to be "resolved." They don't. Your devices are working as designed. While you can certainly submit feedback (the link to do so has been given repeatedly in this thread), I suspect you'll have about as much luck as if you asked for Apple to include an FM transmitter.

The resolution has been repeatedly posted here. Shared Apple IDs share data. Always have. Always will. Stop sharing.

Further sharing of other data wouldn’t surprise in some future iOS version, as well.

Y’all can either deconflict your data now, or go through more effort to deconflict your data in the future.

And hopefully, y’all never hit a bump in your relationships here too, and get your devices bricked and your data permanently deleted.
