M1 16 " Macbook Pro 2021 magsafe port not charging

When connecting the magsafe cable to the magsafe port no charging sound or indicator on laptop. After a couple seconds the magsafe LED slowly blinks orange. No charging. Computer charges fine using the regular USB port so at least I can still charge it with a different cable.

Tested with 4 different confirmed good power adapters and cables. No change. Also had Apple attempt to replace the Magsafe charging port itself. No change. Did a factory reset as well just to check for software bugs. No change. Apple wanted to replace the motherboard in an attempt to fix. $850 charge. No thank you.

Laptop has been used as a desktop computer over the last year I've owned it. No damage. Not even a greasy finger print. No cable wear and tear or socket damage since it never moves.

Hoping there's a solution out there to diagnose the issue that doesn't essentially involve purchasing a new laptop after owning it for just over 1 year. Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

sounds like you did your due diligence, Apple assessment, etc.

you can hope all you want— if it is a hardware issue as you indicate take it in if you want it fixed.

for future reference—AppleCare+ was an option to extend the warranty beyond 1-yr...

I would at least try a restore if Apple over the counter did not:

Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator - Apple Support

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Outside the USA

Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

you can submit your Apple Feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple
