Blink security app - notification sound changed since IOS 17 update

I just updated my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. Since the update the Blink security app notification sound changed and now is very quiet. I went to Settings/Notifications/Blink and the only option is Sounds with an on/off button - no way to change sound or increase volume.

I notified Blink and their Customer Support said to contact Apple. I told them this is not my singular problem but is a Blink problem. No go, they keep pointing at Apple.

Looks like we have a circular firing squad...

Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My specific problem has been that since upgrading to IOS 17, ALL of my app notification sounds changed to a short, low volume "blip" sound, not just Blink. Today, after trying to change a few settings, all my notification sounds returned, and Blink now sounds like a more substantial "beh-roop" sound (kinda like a thick liquid drop). Not exactly sure what specifically fixed the problem, but here's what I did in case you wanted to try.

I double checked all the usual suspect Notifications and Sounds & Haptics settings to make sure they were set correctly and found nothing wrong. Then in Sounds & Haptics, I changed the ring tones for Text Tone and New Mail, and then set them back to default in order to test the ringtones and hopefully reset them. Then I went into Notifications and into the various individual apps whose notification sounds were not working correctly and changed their tones and then set them all back to default. I think the last app I changed was the Mail (Safari) app's sound under Notification, Customize Notifications, selected my mail provider's account name under Accounts, and noticed my Alerts setting was toggled off and I toggled that back on. Within a few minutes I received both an email and Blink notification that sounded normal. Again, I'm not sure what specifically fixed the problem, but in my case, it seems it may have been resetting the apps whose notifications were sounding distorted and turning on the Mail app's Alert on-off toggle that had been turned off during the IOS 17 install.

Your mileage may vary.... Good luck.

iT’S Crazy! I recently brought a NEW Blink floodlight to go with my 4 cameras I have located around my property! But not knowing if or when this issue with the notification alerts will be resolved, I’ve decided just to get rid of the WHOLE Blink system! YES, it’s a big loss but the way it’s being handled gives me a bad feeling should any other issues should come up in the future.

Well, since I give up - I bought an Alexa device. I like its announcements. My Apple watch (Iphone not so much) notifies me during the day fine. Wish the iPhone alert would come back loud and clear though but this was less expensive for me than dumping the entire system. This will be the first night with Alexa in my bedroom and sometimes it is just a grasshopper or deer that sets off the alarm. Thank goodness the one time a person was in my yard in the middle of the night it was a neighbor who was trying to wrangle up one of his runaway cows. Hope this fix is temporary because I find it easier to arm and disarm the system using the Blink App over Alexa (especially for my husband who is a bit resistant to all this dang technology stuff HAHA) Please, dear Apple techs, bring back the loud alert tones.

Yes, it’s crazy. Our industrial building and our house both have Blink and now it’s just the subtle little noise. Surely it can’t be that hard to be able to pick a unique sound for Blink?

I mean, there are 20 or 30 different sounds for ringtone!

I understand that the ringtone is an Apple product on an Apple phone, but surely Blink could offer some other options for sound? Something unique?

I did too. I purchased an Alexa device for use at night. Doesn't do a thing for you if you are not home. Apple watch "rattles" my wrist. I have too much money wrapped up in Apple devices to just toss it all out. Will have to consider all this when the time comes to think about replacements. Gee I have phone, watch and Ipad's for me and hubby and have been very happy until this Blink business. Hope it gets resolved soon.

I so agree. Blink sells their system to work on IOS then it’s Blink’s responsibility to make sure it always works no matter what changes Apple make. Get with the program Blink!! In my two recent (11.15.23) communications with Blink I told them “stop blaming Apple.” It might take me until after the holidays but I’m looking for a new system. The service from Blink is unacceptable.

Hello~ I feel it is both Blink and Apple. The Blink notifications have never been great. The iOS 17 update made the already poor choice even worse. I am using my old SE 1st Gen on iOS 15 and the notifications are like before. So when most needed I have my SE close by as well as my iPhone 12 mini … so there is my two cents worth. This needs to be addressed. It is nice to know switching to ADT would present the same problem.
