TV screen and sound turns off, then on while watching programs on Apple TV device.

There was another person who wrote about this, but the solution didn't work for me - turn off, or restart the Apple TV device. I have different model Samsung 4k TV's and two generations of Apple TV streaming devices - Gen 2, HD & Gen 4, 4k - both tvOS 16.6. Both TV's have the misfortune of turning off, then after 3-10 seconds turn back on when I'm watching a streaming show on the device. It doesn't matter the streaming app - Netflix, Hulu, Plex, Apple TV+ and so on. While the program is playing, the TV screen and sound shut down. No backlight on the screen, it's turned off. A few seconds later the TV turns on again. If it's been off long enough, video playback has paused so I have to start it. Otherwise, I miss a few seconds of the program. I have used another streaming device with the same streaming services and have no problems with it. So this is a problem with the Apple TV device. Is there a compatibility issue with Samsung TV's and Apple TV? Is there an issue with the HDMI settings? I've tried 4k HDR and SDR settings on the 4k, but get the same results. I'd hate to have to go down to 1080p. I've done the same thing with the HD device, but again, no change. I've tried the 4K device on two Samsung 4K TV's. Same issue on both. Here's the punch line: When the Apple TV video screensaver is playing, the TV's never shut down. I've had a hard time trying to find information about this issue so any information is appreciated.

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 16

FWIW, I replaced the HDMI cable from the Apple TV to my AVR as well as from the AVR to the projector and I have not seen the issue come back. Monday night I only watched MNF so no 4k, but last 2 nights I watched different streaming services that were 4K and have not seen the issue. Because I need 25' to the projector I bought a certified 8K active/optical cable from Monoprice and then some Zeskit brand certified 8K 5' cables from Amazon.

So YMMV, but for now seems like I am good to go. But will continue to test and report back if it starts acting up again.

Apple TV video is 4K/SDR, RGB high, 4:2:2, and match frame and content on.

Take this for FWIW but replaced the HDMI cable from my Apple TV to the AVR and replaced the one from the AVR to the projector. Both were 8K certified from Monoprice. I am sure I paid more for the certification, but wanted to eliminate cables as the issue.

I watched MNF last night with no dropouts, etc. Obviously not 4K but promising result. Could be a red herring too as I do think it could still be a software issue.

I will test with true 4K content tonight and report back.

I have video set to RGB High, 4K SDR, Match frame rate and match range on.

I have 7 Samsung TVs, all with different versions of the Apple TV 4k, have not noticed this on them. However I have a Optoma projector routed through a Marantz 8K AVR, and the same thing is happening to me. I just ordered some HDMI cables that are 8K certified, going to replace the ones I am using now to see if the issue goes away. Not really convinced it's the cables but not sure what else to try.

Like you I have tried different video settings and nothing seems to change the outcome.

So these posts were in September 2023, has anyone figured out what is going on? Most of you have newer equipment. My TV is a Sony 1080p and about 15 years old. My Apple TV is second generation. But this problem started when I bought a new receiver. It never happened before I connected the Apple TV to the new receiver through HDMI. Previously the Apple TV was connected by HDMI to my Sony TV and Audio was to my Rotel receiver. Now I have a Yamaha A4A receiver which started the problem. However, I am using the same old HDMI cable, so I am planning on buying 2 new ultra high speed cables with a higher refresh rate. One to connect the Apple TV to the Receiver and the other to connect the Receiver to the Sony TV. We’ll see if this problem stops thereafter. I will try to come back here once I am done to report in. Being a senior’s senior I had forgotten about the earlier post and was lucky to find this again, even though I am consider myself computer literate, of course that was over 30 years ago, and technology has changed so much I can no longer keep up with all the changes, you need a Ph.D. to keep up with it all! Ha!

A good thought, but unfortunately, it didn't help. I have a direct connection from Apple TV to TV (then optical to receiver). I purchased an 8K certified cable from Amazon - 3 ft. but had the same issue when using it. I generally like to have higher-end A/V cables. I have to wonder if the age of the TV's has something to do with it - they're 2015 models, though I do keep their firmware up to date. So perhaps new Apple TV technology isn't fully compatible with older TV technology. I'll keep looking for a solution and post here if I find one.
