iOS 17 Storage Space Bug / Issue

Hey there- I just had this same issue, and asked a friend of mine who is the tech guy for a private school that uses Apple products. Might seem a little overly obvious, but it totally worked for me. I went from my phone being full, to it now saying I have 42GB available. Hope this helps!

Before I updated my iPad to iOS 17.1.1 I had used about 32/33 storage. Now I’ve used 38 after deleting so very much that I really wanted to keep. I’ve offloaded several apps as well and still the storage is at 37/38. Why are my photos repeated on several different pages. I don’t want more than one of each photo except those that I put into albums. Is this using too much storage. I wish I could take this latest upgrade away. Not good at all, in fact an awful upgrade.

It’s actually upsetting how many of us have this issue they refuse to to ANYTHING about!!!! I don’t have the synced content issue, but all of a sudden system data is rising, along with every single app and its “documents & data”…. The sad thing is shutting down this phone or force restart DOES NOTHING. I’m constantly deleting my apps I always am clearing caches safari is always cleared.

My phone is running faster somehow but having a 64gb iPhone in almost 2024 it’s sad to see these issues.

My mom has an 11, WITH WAYYYYYYYYY MORE on her phone than me, yet her iOS is only taking up around 8 gigs and somehow system data only takes up 4-6 gigs. I’m convinced they’ll never fix this.

Having the same issue here. Just updated to iOS 17.1.2, and the problem continues.

By the way, the system data just gets bigger, and after i did the whatsapp backup, it went from 19gb to 50gb. CRAZY!!!!

It seems that it is a problem of the system of erasing the useless data or calculating the real size. i dont know.

Have the same issue and been googling it. Not fixes yet. Very disappointed about this version

I didn’t sync any photos, and just have 3m bytes of music and the synced content is 2 G

I was able to install 17.1.2, but it did nothing to fix the fact that my storage has gone from 50GB to 100GB as the result of switching to a new phone. Are you saying that installing 17.1.2 solved this storage issue for you, or just that it installs properly? I'd appreciate your clarification. Thanks!

Dammit! My phone was fine for a couple days & now I’m back to the same mess. I need to delete like 4GB of off my phone before I can even install the next update to hopefully fix it. This is officially BS!

I have never had as many problems with this new version of the iPhone update 17. Whatever it is . It changed a lot of stuff on my phone . And now yes A storage issue with apps I have had on here for years ? Why ? I swear if they don’t fix these issues I will go to an Android until they do! The new updates are crap!

Same. Im on ios 17.2 Im actually more concerned with the icloud storage increasing for no reason. I delete texts manually and I know it takes up to 4 days to delete from the server end but the backup storage keeps increasing. I also noticed that in icloud under next backup size it just says LOADING I heard ppl who have macs have this problem too. I hope its fixed. Another issue it the messages in icloud wont toggle on its frozen. I had to buy more storage just to be safe.

Yes, me as well. On my iPad 9, almost brand new in terms of use. I hadn’t even used 1/4 of my storage. Now after update, my iPad storage is showing used almost 62g of 64. I can’t even send an email unless it’s just a short message! Does anyone know if apple is working to fix this?

I still am with my 12 Pro. Does anyone else with this synced data issue also have problems with the StandBy screen? When my alarm goes off in standby I can't shut the alarm off until I put the phone passcode in. This only happens when the phone is full with synced data.

The same thing is happening to me after upgrade to iOS 17.4.1. I have 50 GB of free memory but keep getting error so can't get email, take photos because of this error. This is very bad. Basically broke my phone so I can't work.

iOS 17.6/Watch 10.6. My Apple Watch (SE, 2nd Ed) now has 10GB of junk messages on it versus my iPhone’s 2GB. Apple Support (Ha Ha) says this is normal behavior. Apple has a serious software problem regarding Watch storage management. There is no excuse for stealing at least 8GB of my Watch’s precious memory for junk storage overflow mismanagement. Class Action?

Yup it offered 17.0.2 as part of the migration. Of course the install failed so I had to start over again. I think I had 3 shutdowns and startups during this phone to phone migration.
