iOS 17 Storage Space Bug / Issue

We all know how Apple is, and they’ll never fix it. Just like how theyll never give us an option to clear our own system data. It’s inexcusable.

it’s also insane how some people have so much more junk on their phone yet they don’t have any of these issues. And a simple shut down/restart can fix their problems.

I recently bought the iPhone 15 pro (256GB) and updated to iOS 17.1.1

And the system data is through the roof

System data is taking up 34.21 GB of on my phone! (Same was the case in iOS 17.1)

I seriously hope I this gets resolved in iOS 17.2

Every update just messes everything up. I just updated to the new OS and now I can’t even take pictures because says I have no storage space on my 60gb phone even though I should have most everything on iCloud. What the ****?

This 17 update is entirely frustrating as I continued to delete apps and clear the phone of anything possible only to have the storage space just go from 50GB to being Maxed out.

Lets go Apple developers and pls fix this mess.

Before I updated my iPad to iOS 17.1.1 I had used about 32/33 storage. Now I’ve used 38 after deleting so very much that I really wanted to keep. I’ve offloaded several apps as well and still the storage is at 37/38. Why are my photos repeated on several different pages. I don’t want more than one of each photo except those that I put into albums. Is this using too much storage. I wish I could take this latest upgrade away. Not good at all, in fact an awful upgrade.

It’s actually upsetting how many of us have this issue they refuse to to ANYTHING about!!!! I don’t have the synced content issue, but all of a sudden system data is rising, along with every single app and its “documents & data”…. The sad thing is shutting down this phone or force restart DOES NOTHING. I’m constantly deleting my apps I always am clearing caches safari is always cleared.

My phone is running faster somehow but having a 64gb iPhone in almost 2024 it’s sad to see these issues.

My mom has an 11, WITH WAYYYYYYYYY MORE on her phone than me, yet her iOS is only taking up around 8 gigs and somehow system data only takes up 4-6 gigs. I’m convinced they’ll never fix this.

those who are still having storage issues, can you upgrade to 17.1.1 it seemed to resolved the issue with storage on my iPhone 12. Mind you it was a forced upgrade for me, but the issue is resolved for now.

Having the same issue here. Just updated to iOS 17.1.2, and the problem continues.

By the way, the system data just gets bigger, and after i did the whatsapp backup, it went from 19gb to 50gb. CRAZY!!!!

It seems that it is a problem of the system of erasing the useless data or calculating the real size. i dont know.

Have the same issue and been googling it. Not fixes yet. Very disappointed about this version

I didn’t sync any photos, and just have 3m bytes of music and the synced content is 2 G

I'm still having issues with 17.1.2 on 13 Pro Max. I actually went in and deleted a ton of messages and photos and the available storage decreased. Instead of making more space it actually did the opposite and took more space. that makes zero sense.

I was able to install 17.1.2, but it did nothing to fix the fact that my storage has gone from 50GB to 100GB as the result of switching to a new phone. Are you saying that installing 17.1.2 solved this storage issue for you, or just that it installs properly? I'd appreciate your clarification. Thanks!

Dammit! My phone was fine for a couple days & now I’m back to the same mess. I need to delete like 4GB of off my phone before I can even install the next update to hopefully fix it. This is officially BS!

Besides the slow app starting time after upgrading 13 pro to 17.1.2 now it's a mess with the space... It looks like it's taking space from imessge and saving locally all content ( 2tb iCloud plan) imessges were 18gb with ios 16 and now at 77gb and growing.... Erasing content does nothing... 256gb almost full after ios kept it at 160-180gb all the time with iCloud... This is really incredible, who designed or approved such os?!

I'm saying I stalled at the 17.1.1 update because of the storage problem. On a iPhone 13 Max Pro with 250 gig, I installed update 17.1.2 and the storage issue never manifested. My usage never changed, it was 37.5 gig before and 38 gig after.
