iOS 17 gray call screen

I'm sure that I am not the only one. After the IOS 17 update was shocked to see that horrible gray call screen. Who in the technical department decided that was a good idea? and also moving all the buttons to the bottom of the screen. Certainly is vey ugly as far a I'm concerned. I know there's no fix for it here, just getting it of my chest.

As I said the call screen has always been black, incoming or outgoing calls. Now with IOS 17 the call screen is an ugly gray color, with all the buttons that used to be in the middle now moved to the bottom. I'm not even sure if apple now why? I put in a request to apple support and was booked for a midday callback, that was 3 days ago.

Dogcow how do you know most iOS users like it? Has there been an official survey done that you're referencing?

I like it, so I count as much as you not liking it. I also have absolutely no complaint about the gray screen or how Apple rearranged the phone call buttons. It's just a color. And the buttons all work as designed, so, it was just a change. In fact, my motor skills have already become quite adjusted to them.

There are simply more things in life worth worrying over more than a call screen color or button realignment. At least I would hope there are more important things to be concerned about.

True. We don't know what MOST users think. I wouldn't use this thread however, as a barometer of what most users think. Given there are millions upon millions upon millions of users with iOS 17 running on their iPhone, I'd hazard a guess for most, the gray call screen is not an issue worthy of their getting too riled up about and yes, the buttons locations moved, but golly-gee, over the years, we've seen loads of button location changes and we all somehow manage to learn where they are and use them. Overtime, I'd guess most people forget where they once were and move on with their daily lives.

Every year, when the next iOS is released we see people up in arms over things changing. The one thing we can count on in life is change and peoples lives are so interrupted by change, they should honestly think about simplifying things to not be bothered or upset by changes. It will be fun to see what gets people upset next year as again, we can count on change whether we like it or not.

Lobster, when changes are of an aesthetic nature only, yes people can get used to them and move on. But I can't read what's on my call screen anymore most of the time because of the lack of contrast when there's a gray background. That's a functional issue. There's no, "getting used" to not being able to read my screen. That's like trying to "get used" to your car not starting most of the time. It's not ok.

I've been around these forums for over twenty years.

When a mass of people dislike something, we see it here as well as in several other forums.

While there have been people who have been vocal about disliking the new grey screen, it's really not been a huge number, compared to the number of complaints seen when something really is universally disliked.

As far as the button placement, I couldn't tell you where they were before, I always just look for where the button I want is and tap it.

The best workaround is to set a poster picture for any of your contacts with a gray screen who did

not update their poster or who do not have an Apple phone. The gray screen is not going to be fixed because it was designed to look ugly. Apple wants its users to update their contact posters so they look pretty on incoming calls. But the ugly gray screen will continue to show up for any non-Apple users since they do not have the contact posters feature. It encourages people to buy an Apple phone so the don’t appear ugly on other Apple phones. That is also why Apple chose an ugly green background to identify non-Apple users in iMessage. So please never get annoyed at anyone who has an ugly gray screen or a yucky green bubble. Apple understands aesthetics and could make them look nice if they wanted to.

Well the problem with that is many all my contacts are business not personal how can I add a busines selfie ? whats the work around for that?

I don't know why you'd want a selfie on other people's contacts. Wouldn't that be weird to have someone call you and seeing your picture? But if it works for you, by all means.

You can put any picture you want. I have been known to download logos from corporate web pages and use those. But that's just because I like having pictures in my contacts. LinkedIn is a good source for professional photos if you're so inclined.

What's the point of putting a unrelated obcuse photo for your business contact, that's ridiculous

I don't. If it's a contact for a company, I sometimes use the company logo. If it's a business contact who is a person, I use their professional picture from someplace like LInkedin. That makes a whole lot more sense to me than using a selfie. But, as noted, you do you.

Also it’s brighter which hurts my eyes (I’ve become accustomed to full time dark mode and a black background) and, depending how long your calls, might drain the battery quicker.

If you are holding the phone to your ear while on a phone call, your proximity sensor should automatically shut the screen down. Thus no battery drain at all (other than the fact that a call will surely drain your battery far more than a color on the screen). And if you are using bluetooth headphones or the speaker phone, you can turn the screen off while on the call yourself.

Perhaps “log” was the wrong word—secretly listen/watch and mine for data as we type (on here or any other site) is what I meant

There's too much noise on too many threads for Apple to pay attention to the posts. As a level 10, we have an internal forum where we are connected to the Apple people who manage this forum. They have told us on more than one occasion that Apple, the Apple folks you would hope are paying attention to these posts, simply don't. Again, they will read feedback sent the appropriate way, via the link which has been provided multiple times in this thread and that is what people should use, if they want their voice to be heard.

Gray call screen depressing
Apple should project joy, not unhappy colors.

Personally, I find gray to be a very calming color. I wear a lot of gray clothing and shoes and have several gray watch bands for my Apple Watch. Color is subjectively personal. But I honestly have no issue with the new gray call screen. I actually like it. But if they chose another color, I wouldn't be bothered about it. It's JUST a color and one you don't see very long when you're on a call anyway.

If car color is any indication of people's taste in color, gray is extremely popular. I drive a gray car myself.

I used to have a silver car. But, it's a very small car and half the cars in the country seem to be silver or grey so when I got a new one, I got one that's bright blue ("blue raspberry") so I can find it in parking lots. I'm not crazy about the color from a purely aesthetic perspective, but it's very functional.
