iOS 17 gray call screen

I'm sure that I am not the only one. After the IOS 17 update was shocked to see that horrible gray call screen. Who in the technical department decided that was a good idea? and also moving all the buttons to the bottom of the screen. Certainly is vey ugly as far a I'm concerned. I know there's no fix for it here, just getting it of my chest.

Hello LobsterGhost1. It's not the lock screen we're talking about - it's the call screen. I would be very happy if my lock screen were to be used universally when making and receiving calls. It looks a lot like yours - mostly dark but with a star field and distant nebula. But whenever I make or receive a call, the dysfunctional and ugly grey background appears.

Yes they should avoid very dark colored text on a dark background. However, the background in Dark Mode is supposed to be pitch dark black - all pixels off. That saves power and presents a crisp clean image with no noise in the background. Only display elements communicating data should be emitting light. This really takes advantage of how sharp OLED displays can look. Blacks are completely black, with no backlight shining through. This is actually easiest on your eyes and is as comfortable as looking up into a night sky. Only objects of interest are illuminated - stars, planets, etc. You wouldn't want any light pollution there, like city lights cause.

There were no changes made in iOS 17.1, but then Apple never suggested there were supposed to be any changes in the release notes. To me, this is just a non-issue and I've grown quite accustomed to both.

If it's a big deal to you, you're right, once you update, there's no going backwards as Apple has never supported downgrading iOS.

Thank you Lobster, I have already provided feedback to Apple. My original post today was simply asking anyone who might have upgraded to 17.1 if this issue has been corrected yet. I thought that's what this forum is for - to be able to ask questions and exchange information with other Apple users. It was only after you shared with me that you personally are not having an issue with the gray screen that I shared my vision handicap with you so that you might understand where I'm coming from. Please be compassionate and tolerant of those who are not as enabled as you are, rather than telling us to just get used to something which accentuates our disability.

I had a hard enough time getting my 87 year old mother to transfer from android to iPhone. She always had trouble with knowing what buttons to push to answer or hang up the phone. Now just as she has got used to the Apple interface, she has to change again! And why? The phone interface was perfectly fine before. Now it is not only ugly, but also unusable for my mother.

I have Dark Mode enabled, which provides beautiful contrast with full colors throughout the entire iOS interface with minimal power use (black pixels use no energy on modern OLED displays). At least Dark Mode used to do this for me. The Call Screen and Contacts are now no longer working with Dark Mode. That alone is a UI design inconsistency issue with crippling effects in this case.

I'm quite sure you are referring to me. I NEVER once suggested you should like it, nor would have I simply told you get "used to it." NEVER ONCE. I did say I like it and I actually do. I said no one here can do anything about it. I said you should let Apple know what you think. Please DON'T put words in my mouth I NEVER said.

Thank you.
