I'm sure that I am not the only one. After the IOS 17 update was shocked to see that horrible gray call screen. Who in the technical department decided that was a good idea? and also moving all the buttons to the bottom of the screen. Certainly is vey ugly as far a I'm concerned. I know there's no fix for it here, just getting it of my chest.

As I said the call screen has always been black, incoming or outgoing calls. Now with IOS 17 the call screen is an ugly gray color, with all the buttons that used to be in the middle now moved to the bottom. I'm not even sure if apple now why? I put in a request to apple support and was booked for a midday callback, that was 3 days ago.

Hi Patrick, yes I totally agree with what you have said, it's hard to see, the end call button, what were they thinking? or not thinking. Why change something that was so pleasant to look at to this gray ??? All we can do is go to this link here Feedback - iPhone - Apple and tell them what you have said here. I have done that and I hope if enough people do it they will change something in an update. Here's hoping. something else i noticed is I just used the keypad on a phone call, first time since update. The keypad is the same gray color, the numbers are now much smaller and the hide keypad is just small words not an actual button to press, and it's right next to the end call button. I have mention that in my complaint and will raise another post for it. Cheers

You are suggesting I edit every contact on my device, I really have better things to do than that
The whole point is Apple is out of bounds on this, Bring back the basic screen like iOS 16 or give user the option to change the ring screen to a standard appearance
Very first day i hv called apple support and complaint about caller screen dull grey but even they hv no clue...wat on the earth developer's were there thinking for ugly interface...we want our previous one or create new one..
I just spoke to apple support. They said the grey call screen was part of the IOS17 update. They gave me this link and said I should state my dissatisfaction there. Contact Us - Website Feedback - Apple (PH)
I guess if enough people complain they may do something about it. If it's only me nothing will change.

Thanks for your reply. I understand that and know how to do it. I don't want to have to create a contact poster for every contact I have. I'm just saying I would like to have the black call receive screen that's been there for years instead of the ugly gray one.
My contact posters always showed up. Now they all stopped working and I get the gray screen. Now I have to go into each individual contact and create a poster. Why did it stop working in the first place. So annoying.

Getting Out of a Grey Screen:
Perform a Force Restart: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support. That ought to take you to a Home Screen when logged back in.

So, what happens when you take a screenshot while on the phone with this grey background? Is the screenshot grey? Or is this the screen you were in when you got the call? Or is is something else?
Agreed. YUK Also, the text messages screen is very grey along with a couple of others. It reset a number of things on my phone, like my ringtone and alert tones. reset quite a few things, very annoying. I want it back the way it was.

The position of the buttons on the screen when in a call is very awkward. The most used button is speakerphone and now it’s hard to get to. I wish we could choose the position of these like we do the apps.
@Apple I’m so frustrated with grey screen call. Look so cheap. And I have been using the speaker toggle like 20 times a day now they change it to the other side. I hope they fix this.

Waiting to Update:
Call me silly, but I wait a few days to update my iPhone to see what reputation the update has. Why? Because the iPhone cannot be restored from an update of an earlier iOS version. A reputation may not suit my needs or desires, and this is a pure example of one, and how a why it doesn't. So, I plan to update today, now knowing that there is no immediate workaround.
