iOS 17 gray call screen

I'm sure that I am not the only one. After the IOS 17 update was shocked to see that horrible gray call screen. Who in the technical department decided that was a good idea? and also moving all the buttons to the bottom of the screen. Certainly is vey ugly as far a I'm concerned. I know there's no fix for it here, just getting it of my chest.

The Calling screen was actually transparent which was so innovative & clean. If you had a poster for a contact that would be kinda blurred/transparent while in the call, for contacts without a poster your wallpaper would just be blurred in the background. It was so aesthetically pleasing. However now this gray screen thing is just so ugly......so much so that I actually cring when making a call. If you have a custom poster for someone the way it's blurred now isn't quit transparent if that makes sense, just a blob.... not clean. To be honest this seems like a whole step back, how do you go from a transparent screen to an almost soild one? It also makes the buttons look less sophisticated, the font way too bold & starch white. I thought transparency was the future, everything just looks choppy and less refined. The only neat thing about this new update is how you can customize your own contact poster and control how your viewed when you call another iphone user.

Meanwhile, use Siri to make calls and you won't have to look at the oh-so-troubling contact screen.

"What I've done at the moment is taken a photo of black paper. Then added that as a poster to my most used contacts. The rest can stay gray until apple maybe???? do some update to change it. As one comment said, at least give the option to select a black call screen."

Great thought! Got some cool pics that I'll put on there myself.

Excellent job troubleshooting!

You do realize you're just posting to other users, not to anyone at Apple, don't you? I'm sure the people who came to this thread are well aware of how it looks in iOS 17. So posting them here won't get Apple's attention at all. Tell Apple what you think and the Feedback Link has been posted a few times you can use to tell them.

If you can't find the link, here it is --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

To the OP and all fellow participants:

Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of your occurrence, if you did not report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this post.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Yes I sent feedback to Apple about this using the official feedback link. I hope others will as well. I tried to keep feelings out of my feedback, and stuck to the objective truth that it is more difficult for me to use my phone due to the decreased contrast the gray screen causes, along with the reduced battery life I experience from now having to keep the brightness on max to only partially compensate when I'm outside in bright light. I understand people with better vision may not have this issue, but it is indeed functional in nature for me more than it is about like or dislike - though I also dislike it very much. From an Interface consistency point of view, it also breaks with Dark Mode. I'm a software engineer, and I understand the importance of a consistent user interface experience. Apple is normally very good at that.

OK.......then make sure you use the Feedback link which has been posted multiple times in this thread. We are all users like you on this user to user only forum. Arguing why it's an issue for you or not, makes no difference here as there is no one from Apple here and ONLY Apple can change this, if they want to change this. That's up to them.

Yes, please create a fix for this. Who in the world thought this was a bright idea? A gray screen, and all the buttons are disorganized.

No one here, on this user to user only forum can create a fix for this. If you want to let Apple know you'd like them to consider changing the call screen, you can let them know here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

@HoldMe - If nothing can be done at present due to a design change being unconditionally forced on us (as is the case with the gray call screen), then I have also found it is acceptable to suggest a positive change, such as Apple adding a toggle switch in Settings users can turn on to have Dark Mode applied to the Call Screen as it once was, or have a default image applied to the call screen for numbers not in your contacts, or contacts without, “posters” as they are called. I think the action you proposed in your deleted post is good to do, as it definitely gets word to Apple about the difficulty you are having with the gray call screen, but the officially approved method of providing feedback to Apple is through their feedback page here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

While it is said Apple personnel never read posts on this forum, I do believe expressing your opinions here in a positive way can create solidarity with other users sharing your concerns, and they can in turn be stirred to provide feedback to Apple through approved channels. Let’s hope Apple makes this right for all of their users soon by simply giving us a choice in Settings.

Outgoing call screen gray after update of iOS. How to get it back to black the way used to be.? and the contacts now have a horrible yellow background. What is going on, please change it back.

You cannot change it. And you are not writing Apple on this user to user only forum. No one here can change anything.
