Apple watch ultra night mode not working

The Wayfinder watch face also includes Night Mode—a feature that turns all elements on the watch face red to help preserve your night vision.

Touch and hold the watch face, tap Edit, swipe to Night Mode, then use the crown to select Auto | On | Off.

Hey apple, it looks like your customers hate the automatic night mode, especially since it is buggy, turning it on during daylight hours. At least give us a simple toggle to deactivate this feature!

You can turn it on permanently if you edit the Wayfinder watch face (under the NIGHT MODE category). Not as handy as turning the crown, but it’s better than nothing. (I think I’ll eventually grow to like the new crown functionality.) Cheers!

Apple needs to add back the manual option for Night Mode. I found it very useful when using the Wayfinder face. My eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be so I need to adjust the brightness without turning night mode completely off. From a usability and accessibility standpoint, Apple fails to follow a fundamental standard for visually impaired users.

I really wanted to keep an open mind and “get used” to this new update, but the usability is such a step back. I tried for a few weeks but it is still just as frustrating.

the crown scroll is the same as an up swipe, waste of an intergace

rhe widgets are useless and they took up two interfaces to access them. Apple was probably so proud of them they wanted to make sure we could get to them, ugh. Also closing apps takes more actions now also.

I specifically bought the ultra for this feature as my eyesight is not that good. At night I would turn the dial and be able to see the time before going back to night mode.

Why would apple remove this accessibility feature? Is t accessibility one of their ‘things’? Please add this function back in - even under accessibility.

I’m also trying to rally the community as I was bragging about this feature and how well though through it was for the visually impaired.

maybe apple re-thought their market placement for it and didn’t want folks to use it as an accessible feature.

Removing it was a bad move in my opinion.

Since watch os10 release u can only use night-mode now with it on permanently or AUTO which changes in light etc.

you can edit wayfibder face to enable it but the crown is now used to access your widgets so sadly no longer works to turn night-mode on.

So annoying. Also the stopwatch is way too bright now and there’s no way to put it on dark mode. I don’t want a bright white screen when I’m using the stopwatch… they also got rid of the hybrid stop watch which was my favorite one. Massive L… Bad update. Feels like my watch got nerfed.

so I have an $800 watch and highly advanced free diving computer that I cannot control. Big tech nightmare strikes again… Big brother is real and we are not in control… instead we are slaves to the technology.

Post in the diving communities - those are the folks that need to hear this. Apple's marketing research cares about the target audience/buyer - we've already fallen for it.

Warn others to stay away (or make noise) until Apple re-enables this as a feature (or at least monitizes it;)

First Apple Watch Customer. Would not rebuy if this is not reverted. Huge miss by product team and absolutely impacts functionality of the watch and desire to use the watch daily. Shows massive disconnect from customers and a desire to streamline the code base over customer use cases

Ok Folks what do we all do about this, Apple are quite happy messaging me to tell me how helpful my post is to others and how many times it has been “upvoted” whatever that is, but NO response from Apple about the woeful downgrade of the Ultra watch. So I propose for those of us in Europe we write on paper (yes I know it’s old fashioned) to complain in writing directly to the head office in Europe, does anyone know who the European CEO is ?

Exactly what I was about to post! Thanks for sharing this tip, I was about to type the same thing and then scrolled to the last page to see your message. It’s the only way I can see the darn time at night. Swipe back to go back into night mode 👍

@Spielerguy, I would say that everyone in this thread understands that you can set it to Auto|On|Off. The issue is that prior to a recent update, you could use the crown to "toggle" between night mode and normal while the Wayfinder face was active.

The other complaint is that the crown function is redundant, as swiping up from the bottom of the face will access the same widgets. So, they removed a useful function only to give us a less useful and duplicative one.

Yes of course you are correct but that’s the replacement for the previous and “as advertised function” of the crown, unfortunately it’s the exact thing we are all complaining about, bring it back Apple please 🙏
