CarPlay iOS17 not working

So since I did the iOS 17 update, CarPlay no longer works. I have reset the settings on my phone, my car, went through every step I found online and I have installed the most recent bug fix. So I am at a loss and I am assuming when my iPhone 15 Pro Max gets here today that I will still have the problem

Okay, so far on iPhone 13 Pro Max after iOS 17, 17.1.2 and 17.2 updates CarPlay doesn't work on 2021 SYNC3 Mustang, 2024 Opel SUV Hybrid in Europe, and on external screen device link with bluetooth. I can pair, verify, load data, but CarPlay never launches on vehicles. The first two say connected the third never indicates it's connected. Tried factory resets on all vehicles and external devices and clearing of CarPlay and Bluetooth Connections on iPhone, but still no CarPlay. Reset iPhone network connections, changed network access setting on iPhone as directed. Literally nothing works. So, I installed my wife's Apple 14 Pro with some version of iOS 16? on it and magically everything works on the same CarPlay devices.

So that essentially proves this is caused by iOS 17. If I had an iOS 16 backup, I'd revert, but unfortunately backup on iOS 16 started failing which is why I upgraded to iOS 17. It appears that Apple stopped testing software before launching, we're all beta testers.

Also have loaded latest firmware multiple times, so that's not the problem either.

I've also tried changing cables but that shouldn't have affected my wireless CapPlay connection device, so still iOS 17 issue.

I literally had to pull up an old iPhone mount and install on the front dash so I can navigator or borrow my wife's phone.

So Apple, please fix defective CarPlay on iOS 17 so we can stop wasting time and drive safety with handsfree.

I wish I would have looked this up PRIOR to updating the software! Now my iPhone 14 Pro won’t connect with my 2020 Subaru Ascent. I didn’t realize it until I was driving down a mountain road and trying to answer my work messages via CarPlay. Now whenever I get in my car, my Meditation Music starts playing, not a good thing to listen to while driving curvy mountain roads, and I can’t stop it as it doesn’t show up as playing on my phone. I have reset everything and disconnected and reconnected and tried different cords. I disconnected the Bluetooth from the car, but now I’m having to look at my phone for the Maps while driving. I guess I got spoiled having it on my dash! I hope Apple comes up with a solution soon!!

I GOT IT TO WORK by disconnecting my phone from the infotainment center on the car: Settings, Phone, selected my phone, delete(or remove this device). Then on my iPhone 14 Pro: Settings, General, CarPlay, selected my Subaru, Forget this car. Then removed my Subaru from Bluetooth: Settings, Bluetooth, selected my Subaru, Forget this device. Then I turned my phone off and back on. Then I plugged it in to the cable in the car and I got the message to allow CarPlay from the phone, I selected Allow and it is working.

There appears to be a Subaru issue with using Bluetooth to connect the iPhone as then it has a mind of its own. It had the same issue with Pandora, now it plays Apple Music as soon as you connect to the car. I’ll stick to the hardwire!

17.4 pretty much works for me(wireless connection) where 17.3 didn't work 99% of the time.

I connect to Carplay with no problem. Sometimes, when I go back to the car after making a stop, Carplay doesn't work. For example, the song is shown but it won't play. So I switch to the radio, and then back to Carplay and Carplay works again.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work, it's only been a few days now. I also did a reboot of the infotainment system, not sure if that helped or not for using 17.4. Iphone is XR.

Have you had any luck this ? I'm in an identical situation to you- same phone & 2023 Lexus. Neither Apple nor Lexus are helpful. I have an NX & think 17 is not compatible with its software. Staff meat local Lexus had this issue with 17 but it was sorted with some of the updates. They drive UX and IS. When they connected their phones with my NX it went back to not working. Going crazy with this!

Apple CarPlay stopped working in one car the day after an iOS update. In another older car, it still worked. In the newer car, kept getting "accessory not supported" msg & the CarPlay icon on home screen was "greyed out" (disabled) despite USB cord & phone not having changed since day before when CarPlay worked.

Here is what worked for me to get Apple CarPlay working again although it require your car having a separate bluetooth music player function in order to work:

(1) The phone was not connected to the car with USB cord during this step:

Disconnected & then reconnected bluetooth connection from car to phone by going on the iPhone to BlueTooth, the "i" circle next to my car, and "Forget this Device" and then reconnecting it. Disconnected CarPlay as well by by going on the iPhone to General, CarPlay, MyCars and then clicking my car and "Forget this Car", but was not able to reconnect to CarPlay until Step 4 below because CarPlay icon was "greyed out."

This Step 1 may not be needed, but since I did do it, am including. Would suggest to skip this step & try 2, 3, 4 below and only if it doesn't work then come back and do Step 1.

I did also after Step 1 go into the older car and that is when I discovered that both Carplay & Bluetooth Music Player were still working fine in the older car. When I moved from the older working car back into the non-working car, the Bluetooth Music Player switched over automatically and started playing the music in the non-working car and that's how I accidentally discovered this fix:

(2) Used the bluetooth music player on my car home screen to play music using Spotify app on my phone. No USB cord connection still at this time. The music came in over the car speakers wirelessly.

(3) Once music was actually playing, only then plugged in the USB cord from phone to car.

(4) Now suddenly the phone was recognized and I could activate CarPlay normally, this is the point at which I re-established CarPlay that I had disconnected in Step 1. The music that had been playing via bluetooth wirelessly now switched to playing over CarPlay instead of wireless and other CarPlay functions like GoogleMaps were now working as well.

Another family member had a phone that also was suddenly not working with CarPlay in the newer car and this fix worked for them as well. They did also did do Step 1, but they never went into the older car.

After two weeks of not being able to get to work. I figured it out. I have a Kia Telluride, and here is what I did to fix it.

first step as many other suggested, is to reboot your infotainment system. For my car model there is a small reset button next to the volume control. I also changed out the cables and reset the infotainment system back to factory settings. None of that worked though. I also deleted everything out of my Bluetooth and out of CarPlay settings on my phone. The last thing I did today, which seems to have done the trick. Was go into settings, then general, then shut down, then slide to power off the phone. Then I waited about 20 seconds and powered it back up. All while the cable was still connected. When the phone fully came back up, a new CarPlay warning screen was on the infotainment center. clicked through that and unlocked my phone, now everything is working. Hope that helps someone.
