Weather Complications not working watchOS 10 Update

Since upgrading to WatchOS 10, the weather complications do not work.

I have tried several different weather apps but none work.

Can confirm the new "bug" (watchOS 10.3) with weather not working has to do with Wi-Fi on the phone/watch.

Turning off Wi-Fi on the phone and forcing phone/watch to use cellular allows the weather complication to load properly. Noticed the issue was only happening at home and not when out running errands or at work where I'd be on cellular.

This is a new/distinct bug compared to the older issue that was occuring in the Fall. Really frustrating Apple can't get this right considering how important this feature is.

For those who also have this issue, this has been occurring for years. Note that, from what I've noticed, when the watch is turned on after battery drained or turned off manually, the complication will take a while to load your data. If it has been hours, and you've opened the weather app and it works but still isn't showing on the complication, I tried the following recently.

Watch OS 10 / iOS 17

  • Turned 24hr on then back to 12 again
  • Reset location and privacy data on the phone
  • Re signed into Apple ID
  • The watch was recently re paired to the phone as well as completely reset
  • I've disallowed then allowed again the location services to "use while using the app"

For some of these instructions, the settings in Apple are a bit scattered all over the place, so make sure you look around. Some options are on the watch, some are on the watch app, while some (such as weather privacy data) are on the normal settings app on your phone.

The watch for years has been having an issue with weather complications, and it seems like Apple has never really fixed it entirely for people.

One of these solutions above worked for my recent issue with this, I don't know which one. After doing all of this, turning off and on the watch, and waiting, it eventually showed up. Sometimes you just have to wait for the complication to work.

Hope this helps, because all the information online for how to fix this is a bit scattered and inconsistent

The 24 hour toggle hack seems to work only for a few minutes. Also, the 24 hour toggle itself is not permanent. When I put my Ultra on its charger and wake up the next morning, the watch goes to 12-hour but the Watch app in iOS on my 15 Pro Max still shows 24 hour.

Certainly a bug and it looks to be affecting a lot more people than just a couple of us. WatchOS 10.0.1 looks to be a work in progress still.

Hopefully, Apple will have a fix soon. Until then, it'll be constantly flipping the 24 hour toggle :-|

My Ultra (1st generation) started having problems with the Apple Weather app a while back when you opened the app the new ring features would disappear. I had to turn off and then turn back on the watch to reset. Now it doesn't show the information on the complications or even when you open the weather app. I usually have to turn off the wi-fi on both my phone (iPhone 14 Pro) and then set the face to edit and hit the home button and then a few other things that are really hit or miss and then it comes back on. For some reason it goes out way more often at home. I wish Apple would address this as I'm sure it's fairly wide-spread.

Just throwing out what seems to have worked for me. Apple Watch 7, iPhone 12 iOS 10.5. Did all the stuff everyone has suggested. Turning off Wifi on my phone in my home network did cause the weather to populate; however, once I turned WiFi back on, it was still populating but not updating to live. I went into the Apple Watch App on my phone, scrolled down to the weather app and changed the default from current location to one of my other cities. Everything populated. I changed the default back to current location and everything still seems to be working properly...we'll see. Hopefully that can help at least a few folks, but this is insane that we have 13 pages of folks having the same problem, I have the latest iOS of 10.5, and this has been going on since 10.0. Come on Apple, pull your head out.

After trying solutions on this thread, this finally worked for me for Watch 8/WiFi only:

  • Upgraded to watchOS 10.3.1
  • Reset location privacy on iPhone (General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy) and granted Weather location access to “Always”
  • Set my current location on the iPhone Weather app
  • Complication still not working, then I turned off WiFi on iPhone and waited a few minutes
  • Weather and Sunrise complications came back on — changed Location Access to my preferred “While Using App or Widgets”
  • Waited 5 minutes and then turned WiFi back on my phone
  • Complications still working next day

I noticed if changed Location Access from Always to another setting while still on WiFi, the Weather complication would blank out, but the Sunrise comp would stay on. The offline sequence above worked.

Hope this helps!

Scratch that. Issue has returned several hours after I made my previous post.

I have also noticed that in the settings for the Weather app in the Watch app on my iPhone, it is set to mirror my iPhone's config in the weather app. However, it's not doing that. I had to manually add my city in the watch weather app to get it to report on anything. And even then it only reports on it for a matter of some hours before disappearing again. I have tried changing the settings in the Watch app to various different options then setting it back to my preferred config, but it just seems like it is mostly ignoring any config changes I make.
