iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

For all of you:

Do a simple Forced Restart on your new iPhone by:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and quickly release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button and KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to shut down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

Sign back in with your passcode when the phone prompt you and let the phone settle down over the next couple days. If you transferred a LOT of data, it can days for the indexing process to complete. There is likely NOTHING wrong with your phones.

Ok, but this is not an answer to the fact that in a new phone with a theoretically better battery and a more efficient processor, the battery drops more. Especially since I am presenting a comparison of two iPhones with identical settings and applications. I understand that this may differ in cases when we switch from another phone. I'm sorry, but this translation doesn't make sense to me.

Was planning to trade-in my 13 Pro for a 15 Pro. I think I’ll wait until Apple sort it. Very doubtful Apple will issue a recall unless someone reports smoke coming out of their phone or the internals begin to melt. You’d think they would have field tested this aspect to death, but doesn’t seem that way. I only happen to find out about this issue when doing an internet search for something totally unrelated. I do hope those who have already got their new phones get this fixed soon 🤞

My 15 pro (NOT THE MAX) gets uncomfortably hot at times just by doing simple tasks LITERALLY. I could be checking/writing emails or even start up a video and my phone would heat up like CRAZY. I don’t wanna hear anyone telling me anything about indexing because that’s supposed to take up to 48 hours at most IVE HAD THIS PHONE FOR **** NEAR A WEEK and don’t tell me about “turning off voice overs” either because that was never on and I don’t leave apps running in my background… this is a issue apple has to fix

Almost everyone in the forum has a overheating iPhone 15 just like me I’m just simply letting the other users know it’s a apple issue not really theirs

And that's like going to a hospital and deciding that, because all of the people in the hospital are sick, all the people in the city must be sick. People posting in a technical support forum is not a representative sample. Most people who are not having problems don't take the trouble to log into the forum to say, "Hey, everything's peachy! See ya!".

Exactly. We have absolutely no heating issues with iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max. I've been on a call with my brother and sister in law for the last 45 minutes. My 15 Pro Max isn't even warm. In fact, I just ended the call. 52 minutes, my phone isn't even warm and the battery declined 2% in 52 minutes on the phone. I'm a very happy camper, indeed!

Since no one here works for Apple or has any clue what they are working on, we can't possibly know what they will or won't do.

And the narrative of not everyone has this issue is actually a good narrative. I now know several people who own iPhone 15 models (most of them either Pro or Pro Max) and yet, not one of them is having any heating issues. I own two myself, without any heating issues. I suspect there are millions of people out there who are blissfully unaware there are some who do have issues. This thread magnifies the issue higher than it likely is in the wild. But then neither you nor any of us can validate how many do have an issue, versus how many don't have one. It just would not be fair to "assume" more have it than don't. Anymore than it is fair to "assume," more don't than do.

I'm having NO heating issues. For example, I typically work at my desk through lunch and listen to music with Bluetooth Earbuds. Everyday this week, I've streamed music for an hour minimum and my phone got slightly warm during that hour. But no warmer than any of my iPhones preceding my 15 Pro Max (including my 14 Pro Max). Tonight I spoke to my brother over my cell phone for 51 minutes and my phone didn't even get warm and I lost a mere 2% of battery in an almost hour long call. I also watched some YouTube videos tonight and my phone got slightly warm, but nothing worth mentioning.

And we're having the same performance on our 15 Pro as well.

I can't advise you what to do about your second phone. I honestly don't know if the second phone would be treated like the first you received in terms of refund.

lobsterghost1 - Thanks, that's actually helpful. It's been a little hard to tell in some of this discussion whether the people saying that they're not having any issues are really having no issues or simply have a higher tolerance for issues! So having someone state directly that they're not experiencing any heat in situations where I am helps to know that there definitely are phones out there without the issue, because that means that swapping for another one is at least worth trying.

As for swapping to the other phone... I'm not going to go ripping it open right now, but rather than just returning it, I am going to ask them if it's ok for me open it and try it.

mickeytheking - Yeah, biggest reason that I'm concerned is that I could actually be potentially making two open returns if the second phone has the same problem. So I'm just going to check with them first to make sure I won't run into any issues with that.

My dinner last night were actually made with a iPhone 15 Pro Max :)

Well, I think I stick with my order and wait until I can pick it up so I can test for myself. Many people here says it´s overheating, but not so much so that the phone tells you about it, and some says it´s just fine, so I try myself.

If the heating issue is for me as well, then I just return it, simple.
