iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

For all of you:

Do a simple Forced Restart on your new iPhone by:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and quickly release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button and KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to shut down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

Sign back in with your passcode when the phone prompt you and let the phone settle down over the next couple days. If you transferred a LOT of data, it can days for the indexing process to complete. There is likely NOTHING wrong with your phones.

In my visits to the Apple Store I have not once seen an overheated iPhone in spite of the fact that the stores were full of people trying them out.

All I’m reading are speculative posts by some early adopters and many chiming in with their thoughts and ideas of what could or could not be the issue.

I will keep and use the iPhone 15 Pro when I receive it with the AppleCare+ cover.

I am sure Apple is a reputable company and will do what’s right and address this.

This is an expensive phone that Apple has promoted has a lot of power. The thing can run PS4 quality games and I don’t see where the ventilation is for the heat. So if there’s a problem with the design, and it will take a software update to fix, which may mean Apple will have to adjust the power used, then it wouldn’t be quite the phone they advertised. So I will wait because I’m not buying something if the solution is to limit capabilities of the device. I’ll just get the 14 instead or wait for the 16.

15 Pro 256GB owner here. I experienced the same overheating issues within the first 3 days of my purchase, but now it's pretty good. I tested it by playing Call of Duty and Genshin Impact for a total of one hour and didn't notice any overheating problems. Other apps like Instagram, Safari and Camera works well too. However, I'm still worried and following this thread for the latest news.

Getting warm and "overheating" are not the same. An iPhone which overheats puts a message on the screen saying you can't use it until it cools off. If you're not seeing such a message, your phone may be warm, but it is NOT overheating.

Everyone is complaining of this very same issue. It's very common for this iPhone. Best thing to do limit your time with using the phone and use the essential apps until Apple releases an iOS update or statement on this issue.

"Everyone" is not complaining. I'm not complaining and I'm someone. And there are now literally millions of iPhone 15 model phones in the hands of people all over the world. The posters in this thread are actually statistically insignificant in relation to the number of people with an iPhone 15. You also say its very common. I now know multiple people who own an iPhone 15. Not one of them is having heating issues. So no, "everyone" is not complaining.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max is overheating more than any device I’ve ever experienced. It’s reached a point where I’ve become seriously concerned about this products ability to remain free of permanent damage.

As for those who commented that it’s not really overheating we just aren’t understanding, the screen is also dimming when it overheats which, if I recall correctly, is an indicator that a safety feature is in progress in response to overheating. A procedure that was implemented several years ago when there were reports/concerns of iphone batteries exploding. This procedure reduces unnecessary power output in an attempt to cool the phone down before permanent damage occurs, hence the dimming of the screen. So no, not me misunderstanding.

I also fear that any software changes to correct this overheating problem will reverse what small amount of improvements we were able to obtain by upgrading from the A16 to the A17 chip. In essence I will have upgraded my 14 pro max to pay for what will essentially become a 14 pro max that overheats. Way to waste $2200 ($600 paid on 14pm and $1600 for 15pm)

I’m now locked into a “contract” for the next 36 months with Verizon on this 15pm which means I won’t be able to upgrade when the next iPhone comes out now. Who knew the unprecedented would happen and I’d be stuck with a dud!? I wish now I would’ve just kept my 14 pro max!
