iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

Got mine this months, overheated when setting up then warm at times. But the battery drain is stunning. Worse than my 2020 SE with 85% health! Each time I grab it drops 2 percent. No instagram no Uber no Facebook. Also people cannot seriously believe that just because it is titanium it should get warmer ot it can handle it. Any heat in any electronic phone, above 25C is bad for the electronics and especially the lithium ion battery. Heat kills batteries to begin with.

That works too. I also noticed that when the iPhone was completely turned off it did not overheat or drain the battery as much. It is definitely a bonus versus all other phones that do not overheat to begin with. Also we have winter here so a pocket or palm warmer is an asset as a normal phone actually turns off in -10C in just minutes. I returned mine and am enjoying my older one with a new battery.

The battery drain was too much for a new iPhone 15 Pro. I returned mine and that resolved the issue. At some point I was averaging 1-2 % drop just grabbing the phone and opening safari. No other Uber instagram Facebook I do not have them as apps. Email was not set. 15 min browsing I had lost 22% reserve. Mild warm feeing if plugging it in. Definitely very different than the family’s 15 iPhone non Pro.

bring it in to the Genius Bar and have it tested there. But note that for all my iPhones going back 10+ years I patented and used cases with holes to enable battery cooling and that always worked for me. Most cases contribute to overheating as the polycarbonate traps the infrared. But if you feel it unusually hot, book an appointment and they can plug it and test it on the spot. I would also test with a clean, non back up image.

I also purchased one in late Oct and exchanged it the next day for another iPhone 15 because it overheated while it was charging, thinking that it must just a faulty battery. But this other one has been also getting pretty warm to hot over the past two months especially when being charged. It's more than likely that there's faulty wiring in these new IPHONE model.

There is no evidence of any throttling or reducing performance. A few years ago a group including ArsTechnica myself etc engaged Apple and Mr Cook agreed to the battery issue and full universal free swap for a year I think. Back then we had a clear code evidence of throttling. In the present situation the 15 processors work as intended. Also a reminder that a more efficient cooling frame will be warmer as it evacuates more heat. The hardware in the 15 Pro is extraordinary in terms of performance and a 120 Hz screen . If indeed the phone was overheating versus design you would have clear rapid battery health issue with the State of Health and State of Charge. Also anyone loving an in-line 6 S M Performance BMW knows that it is way hotter than an inline 4 but as intended. So unless noticing major battery health issues, sudden shutdowns, erratic behavior and freezing, the hardware performs as intended.

There's nothing to fix. Apple specifically suggests that when you get a new iPhone, for the first few days it will run warmer than you might expect. It takes a few days for the phone to index the millions of bytes of data on a new iPhone. And if you are also using to do other tasks while it's indexing, it will definitely run warm to hot. After a couple days, it will settle down as expected.
