iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

For all of you:

Do a simple Forced Restart on your new iPhone by:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and quickly release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button and KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to shut down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

Sign back in with your passcode when the phone prompt you and let the phone settle down over the next couple days. If you transferred a LOT of data, it can days for the indexing process to complete. There is likely NOTHING wrong with your phones.

Heaven forbid Lobsterghost1,

The user should indeed first seek out a nearby cave to like any cave (wo)man of old.

While in that cave he/she would marvel over the wonder of a mobile phone made by Apple and check those messages / snaps and what not, to return to the world a modern (wo)man.

I, by the way, seem to have difficulties seeing real advice coming my way whenever you write something.

By the way I am sure Apple users would like to use their devices anywhere around the world (aka outside their homes/shopping centers).

That's what I said mate, I will go to genius bar, once some stock builds up.

Your contention that until iPhone pops a message "iPhone needs to cool.....", phone is not overheating is not correct.

And by the way... 3nm has to be better in efficiency, so has to produce lesser heat for similar tasks. I can write a treatise on 3nm vs 4nm. But as a customer, I pay for experience, which was denied 1st time in 7 years.

I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to FPilau, who simply said their iPhone heats up on "MOBILE DATA" viewing YouTube, which would be expected. They didn't say it go tso hot they couldn't hold it in their hand. Had they said that, of course that wouldn't be expected and if anyone has such a situation, their phone is heating to a level they can't hold it in their hand, they should take it to Apple for evaluation.

If my iPhone 15 is too hot to hold, it is overheating. Period.

So instead of telling us, what did Apple say when you showed it to them for testing? Surely, you did that??? Or are you more determined to make a complaint on a user to user only forum, where Apple doesn't participate and there is not one thing anyone here can do to help you.

Of course not. But then the display models have their screens continuously ON and people are using them all day long. Plus, they're on chargers all day. I would fully expect them to run warm. I don't recall a time when display units in the Apple Store weren't warm. And that includes the previous generations of iPhone.

All I can tell you is neither our 15 Pro or 15 Pro max EVER run hot. EVER. And we do use them.

I have been getting this warning every time I charge my iPhone 15 base model with 20 w charger, even on the replacement device, never happened with my iPhone 12 and 13.

That does not mean your phone is overheating. It's just telling you that Optimized Battery Charging is working and that it has stopped charging your phone until it the battery temperature drops some. Phones have done that since optimized battery charging was introduced but there was no message explaining what was going on. That meant people thought something was wrong with their phones because they weren't charging.

All batteries will get hotter while charging. To increase the overall life of the battery, you want to decrease that, hence, Optimized Battery Charging.

I’ve just finished a call. It lasted 7 minutes when I’ve figured out the phone is extremely hot. I am extra sensitive so it was unbearable to talk further.

The phone is brand new and bought in the US. If this is common I don’t think that replacing it will

do any good.

In my country I have only reseller stores (I style)

is there some answer from the #applesupport

It is disgraceful that this “high end” piece of tech is struggling with temperature.

Purchased phone last week, It is getting hot even after 17.1.1 , even without usage, the charging stops with a msg “charging will start after phone lowers temperature “

That message means the phone is functioning as intended. iPhones have always stopped charging when they reach 100% to allow the battery to cool. What's new is the message that tells you what's happening. Also, if you're using optimized battery charging, they will stop at 80% before resuming.
