I discovered that the volume control for speaker phone mode is independent of the regular iOS volume. This seems to be part of the 17.x update.
Make a call, set to speaker, and then adjust the volume up and it will all work fine.
This was driving me nuts as speakers worked all other apps except in the phone app.

watch this video. The apple store did this then said the speaker was dirty.
Iphone 14 plus… Same has been the issue with over calls cellular WhatsApp FaceTime … one weird glitch is that when switching from speaker to phone and back to speaker the other party starts hearing me but that is flaky. How can such a basic functionality be affected …. Can’t have calls in peace anymore … observed this over office virtual meetings
too… Anybody from APPLE reading this … please fix … I have tried with both AirPods pro on and off.
I have the iPhone SE. I updated my phone three days ago and the next morning when I woke up my phone wasn’t working right. People couldn’t hear me and when I hang up I wouldn’t be able to make calls for about a minute. I went to the Apple store, they ran a bunch of diagnostic test and at the end they said the front microphone was failing. Told me to go get a new phone, I did was at the AT&T store for six hours yesterday, because they were having problems with the update. Finally got home and this morning I wake up with my new phone and it’s not hearing me. I keep saying hey Siri and it doesn’t hear anything. I change the settings to always listen, but it doesn’t work. I got a new phone for nothing. The 17 update is too much for these SE phones I believe, what a nightmare. So now I guess I’m gonna have to make another appointment at the Apple iStore that’s an hour away and ask them to please roll back the update, which is what I asked for the first time. It is definitely the update.
I'm having the same issue. After updating to iOS 17.x, the far end cannot hear me when using speakerphone and the phone app. All other audio apps work, this is definitely a software issue Apple introduced with iOS 17.x and as of iOS 17.1.2 it is still not fixed. This isn't a hardware, case, or settings problem (reset settings is just a workaround).
@Apple, please confirm this is a known issue and link to any internal documentation you can share including an ETA for the fix if possible.
I reset mike isolation to normal as suggested by contributor asprovidence. Happy to report that for the last two days all speakerphone calls have been without fail. No more cutting out. Perhaps the initial ios17.x update defaulted to mic isolation. I don’t believe I set it that way. Hope this is the end.
That's the only way you can access the mice mode is also while making a call, but once you change the mic mode to "standard" it will stay that way unless you change it. I have a 13, sorry it didn't work. I didn't have any problem with FaceTime, only on speakerphone so maybe a different issue with the 11.
Sorry to hear that. For me that worked two times and for now it’s seems to be fixed.
Also I tried to turn off and on the Bluetooth.
Hope there’s a fix from Apple soon!
I have iphone 13 pro. Issue seems to be resolved since ios 17.1 update.
Someone posted this link here using another iPhone and it fixed theirs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=nHsQFaExMFA. Maybe try this if you haven't yet.

None of those things listed work - as soon as I downloaded the iOS 17.0.1 the issue occurred where no one can hear me when i am on a call. It’s not a faulty microphone issue it is a faulty software update.
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and exactly the same circumstances. No one on cellular calls can hear me (I’ve tried bluetooth earbuds, bluetooth in car, speaker phone and normal handheld). The moment I switch to using WhatsApp to place a phone call it works fine and they can hear me.
After upgrade to 17.0.3 [iPhone 14], when on speaker my mic stops working on phone calls No problem if on my Air Pod Pro [v2]. If I turn the speaker off/on, the caller hears me for a moment and then dead mic again.
Seems to be software problem with my phone, not any callers - one caller has iphone 13 on iOS 17.0.3 and another has iphone 14 Pro on iOS 16.something & both experience my mic cutting out on our calls.
If you take it off mic standard mode then you will have to turn it back on when using speakerphone. I have no need at this time to change the mic mode from standard, so I leave it on "standard". Are you having the exact same problem on speaker phone .... you can hear people on other end clearly but they cannot hear you or say you're breaking up? That's what this solution typically fixes.
I went to the Apple Store yesterday. they made me do a factory reset…again. Did all the diagnostics everything checked out fine. They said even if it’s a software issue there’s nothing they can do and to just wait for an update that fixes it and suggested I just buy a new iphone since I’m out of warranty. So they bug the phones so you have to buy a new iPhone. This issue has been going on for too long with no acknowledgment from their end or even have it documented this is a widespread issue, despite this forum and many others on here. This will never be fixed. These posts have been around for 2+ years. As my wife said, life isn’t fair.
