PAGES Shift+Return Keystroke for soft return no longer working

The Pages documentation still shows shift + enter but in reality, Apple has tinkered with Pages v13.2 and now the soft return is ctrl+shift+enter on a U.S., ABC-Extended, or U.S. International keyboard input type.

Pages v14.0 (Ventura or later) now permits either a shift+enter or ctrl+enter to insert a soft return. That in addition to the non-contiguous text selection using a cmd key that has taken 11 years to restore.

Use Control, Shift + Return to now do a "soft return". It makes no sense whatsoever that this has been changed and it's more awkward to use. I agree, it will drive you crazy ;)

In System Settings, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, App Shortcuts, add Pages and I used Control+Return for insert Line Break. Works great.

I've just updated to Pages 14.0 and I think this has been fixed. SHIFT-Return and CONTROL-Return both appear to insert 'soft returns'. *sigh*

A workaround that I just discovered is to find an old document with the soft return. Copy the soft return with a few characters before and after, then paste into your new document.

It works with control rather than shift now somehow, don't know if they messed up or didn't on purpose but that's awful.

Just "Control + Return", but yes adding shift in there too does no harm (beyond the finger workout😁).

It seems Control+Return is now being used by Pages as the new key combination for Insert Line Break / Soft Return. What we want is for it to move back to Shift+Return. And sadly the Keyboard Shortcuts settings will not accept Shift+Return for Insert Line Break.

I agree. Everyone who's posted here should submit the bug report using this link: Feedback - Pages - Apple. It's the only way they're really going to do anything about it—unless they happen to have a regression test that somehow surfaces between now and the next release.

If they did have said test, there's a good chance they wouldn't have made this change.

I find this particular feature really annoying because some apps do SHIFT+ENTER, some do CTRL+ENTER and some do both. It's even worse because the current Mac version of Excel requires OPTION+ENTER to get soft returns in a cell!

But the principle here is that you've trained your users for decades how to do this—and then you change it. There's no reason they couldn't have just added an additional shortcut, because I've never heard of SHIFT+ENTER having any other function than this.

Did you see my post on Apr 2 (above) stating that both shift+return and ctrl+return now enter the soft return in Pages v14.0?

That would be quite a cumbersome workaround. You could simply add one line break through the "Insert >> Line Break" menu and then copy-paste this one.

Faced with this eye rolling situation, I've uninstalled Pages v.13.2 and reinstalled Pages v.13.1 from my back up.

NEVER will I upgrade the Pages unless this is fixed.

Shift+Return has been a line break in Windows and Apple software forever, and for some reason Apple thought it was a good idea to make it Control+Return.

Please fix it!!!
