iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

After latest iOS 17 update, my iPhone 13 touchscreen is completely unresponsive - It won’t even let me restart or shut down. Major crisis! Hey, Apple: Please help us fix this problem soon!

I'm facing the same issue on my iPhone SE 2020. Sometimes force restart works 1 in 10 times, the other 9 times touchscreen continues to be unresponsive. And the one time when the screen starts working , it becomes unresponsive again after a short period of time. Haven't managed to identify any specific pattern before the touchscreen goes unresponsive. Even tried factory reset however still this issue continues to persist. Also went to the store they couldn't help either. To my surprise they suspected my iPhone is not a genuine apple product. Have you managed to figure out the resolve to this problem yet? It certainly seems to be a widespread issue affecting multiple users across varied iPhone models, however Apple doesn't seem to care at all!

i might have fixed it finally after many trials and errors.

back up your phone to itunes or your mac using a cable

connect to itunes or mac using a cable

press vol up then release

press vol down then release

hold power button till screen asks you to connect to your computer. you will see a cable image.

open itunes, it will inquire automatically for update and then restore to factory settings; follow the instructions. once your phone is turned back on after loading the computer's installation. do not set it up on the phone. just connect to itunes or mac w a cable. then, restore your iphone with your itunes/mac back up.

you may still experience some lag or nonresponsive behavior. just ignore.

I let it sit overnight and it seems to work now.

good luck. I went to the apple store. they couldn't help me! i spent a week or so on this fix (hopefully).

The only working fix to this issue is to connect your iPhone to a Mac(of one of my friend’s ) and open DFU and the app will automatically ask you to restore the phone . in this way, you can easily restore your iPhone without any data loss. Luckily, I had my E-SIM also activated never updating into beta versions in my life 😮‍💨. I request Apple to fix this issue and I didn’t have a MacBook either and it was a worst situation.

I woke up to IOS 17.2.1 and a touchscreen that didn't work. My touchscreen is aftermarket. I tried the forced power-off tips here (volume up, volume down, right side button), but all that happened was the Siri symbol. Curiously, my car picked up the phone through CarPlay so I was able to at least hear new text messages and send from my car using voice commands.

Eventually, I tried the re-boot tips with the phone plugged into my computer. It took a couple tries, but finally my phone restarted and the screen became responsive again. By the way, I have an HP computer, not an Apple product, and I never had to go into Itunes.

Sure seems like an ongoing software problem that Apple should have fixed by now.

Update- after many tries to downgrade my wife’s 13 ProMax yo an older iOS that did not disable the touchscreen, we gave up and went back to the Apple store to pay $500 and have them replace “something” in the back of the phone. They either did not have the correct part or the replacement did not fix the problem so they swapped out the phone for a new one (still charged the $500 for them to open up the back of the old phone). I had purchased an app ($20) that was supposed to help downgrade the OS, but the one that last worked was not “signed” by Apple, so the phone would not accept it. Very frustrated - still feel like this is a software error caused by Apple’s iOS update but no way to prove it. My wife had to have a working phone for her job, so we paid the $500. Still frustrated with lack of knowledge and response from Apple store Genius Bar.

My daughter and I both have iPhone 15 Pro Max purchased in December. No screen issues, no damage, mint condition. We both did the iOS 17.3 update and her phone is now a brick. I also work as an indirect agent for Verizon. I have seen phones purchased from me in store, opened in store, set up working fine and the update gets done before the customer walks away from my desk and the phone turns into a brick.

Success!

mine wasn't working after the update and the hard resets weren't working for me I did like 100 of them.

  1. plug your phone into your laptop
  2. make sure you have iTunes open
  3. hard reset but hold the on/off button down even after the Apple logo appears until it comes up with the support plug-in screen (it will take about 30 seconds)
  4. then it will allow you to update if that is your issue and it should fix the problem.

Exactly. My 2-year-old iPhone 12 Pro suddenly stopped working 3 days ago (unresponsive screen - tried the reset suggestions mentioned in this thread, none worked). Took it to the Apple Support Center here in Tokyo, where the very polite assistant explained it was probably a duff screen, which they'd be happy to replace for 42,000 yen (around US$300) although they would not charge if that didn't fix the problem. I pointed out that 1,000+ people in this forum alone have experienced the same fault, so it couldn't be a screen problem. The assistant shrugged. So I let them go ahead with the screen swap but as expected, that didn't fix it. The phone is now useless and I had to shell out 150,000 yen for a new iPhone 15. Great business if you can get it!
