iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

Let’s ensure that you have properly used the Forced Restart method shown below.

——

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Hi all, I have been facing the same issue since yesterday, I have had to restart multiple times and the screen does not work to unlock!

I have found a fix for the time being, it has worked for me now!

Try to press and release Up volume and release > Press down volume and release > Press and Hold Power button till the screen goes black and as soon as the screen goes black, take your hands off the buttons!

Most of the response is to hold and release after you see the Apple Logo but in this instance, release the power button as soon as it goes black.

Thanks and hope it works!

I'm on 15 Pro Max - I updated to 17.2 and it completely bricked my touchscreen. I tried the force restart a couple times but nothing--touch screen wanted nothing to do with any touch. I plugged my phone into my Mac and iTunes popped up, with a popup in middle of screen that said I was in DFU mode (or something Similar to that) and I needed to "Update and Restore" my iPhone. I clicked "Restore" or "Restore & Update" (which factory resets your phone so hopefully you have phone backed up to iCloud) and when it came back from the factory reset, my touch worked again. And it's on the latest update. Kind of a pain in the ***, but your phone is not broken.

Success!

mine wasn't working after the update and the hard resets weren't working for me I did like 100 of them.

  1. plug your phone into your laptop
  2. make sure you have iTunes open
  3. hard reset but hold the on/off button down even after the Apple logo appears until it comes up with the support plug-in screen (it will take about 30 seconds)
  4. then it will allow you to update if that is your issue and it should fix the problem.

Fixed on iPhone 15 without full restore.

I initially tried restarting using the buttons as others have described volume up, volume down, hold side button. After failing twice I did the below steps that worked.

  • Plugged into Mac with "Apple Configurator" tool
  • Saw the iPhone was in DFU mode.
  • Found the phone in the list of devices
  • Right clicked and under "Advanced" selected "Revive Device"

This basically reinstalled the latest iOS update on the phone and when the install was complete the touchscreen worked as expected again.

Updated 1OS 17.3.1 this morning - touch screen didn't work afterwards.

Tried using some of the advice below but the phone wouldn't even shut down.

Do not despair! I used someone else's advice and connected to my MacBook using a USB C cable.

I then needed to restore my iPhone 15 to factory settings and restore iCloud. Very frustrating, an annoyance but it worked and everything is working.

SUCCESS! I added one important extra step to these instructions: plugging my iPhone into my desktop iMac - and that did the trick:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

I woke up to IOS 17.2.1 and a touchscreen that didn't work. My touchscreen is aftermarket. I tried the forced power-off tips here (volume up, volume down, right side button), but all that happened was the Siri symbol. Curiously, my car picked up the phone through CarPlay so I was able to at least hear new text messages and send from my car using voice commands.

Eventually, I tried the re-boot tips with the phone plugged into my computer. It took a couple tries, but finally my phone restarted and the screen became responsive again. By the way, I have an HP computer, not an Apple product, and I never had to go into Itunes.

Sure seems like an ongoing software problem that Apple should have fixed by now.

Mine did the same. I had accidentally pressed something - wasn’t paying attention ?? 😄 ?? as the screen did say something about options which I clicked out of and then my screen was unresponsive. Could not even turn it off as Apple Support page suggests. So I then used Siri to “Power Off” - by holding the right hand side button in until the Siri circle came up and then said Hey Siri, Power Off iPhone - yes, and it switched off. About to restart so fingers crossed! Ok yay that worked! Good luck everyone!

I repaired my bricked iPhone 15 Plus (no touch screen & stuck in DFU mode) & fully restored all data, using iMazing.com software that I purchased online. It took me over 6 hours, over 7 days, of searching online for software to repair my bricked iPhone 15 Plus. It took iMazing software 45 minutes to fully restore my iPhone 15 Plus. Within 15 minutes iMazing software reactivated the iPhone 15 Plus touch screen, which had not worked as soon as my iPhone 15 Plus automatically updated to iOS 17.3

No, I do not work for iMazing.com but their software, that I paid for worked within 45 minutes to fully restore my iPhone 15 Plus with no loss of data, and its far superior to using iTunes, which I will no longer use for cell phone backups.

I spent at least 6 hours dealing with the Apple store and an Independent Apple Retailer and drove 150 km, trying to get my iPhone Plus fixed without a loss of data. In total, I spent about 24 hours restoring & backing up my iPhone 15 Plus.

My case was also escalated with a special "technical repair" ticket and a specific Apple Support Representative to contact who verbally promised, during our phone conversation, to "email or phone me back within 24 hours." I sent that Apple Support representative four (4) emails, on Feb. 6th & 7th and he never ever replied to any of my emails.

I'm thoroughly disgusted with the lack of service & support I received from several Apple departments on an iPhone under warranty (wait, what warranty? I even paid for the repair to my bricked iPhone 15 Plus)

I took a nap after dinner then my iphone 15 pro max somehow updated even without put on charging. After I woke up, the touchscreen was completely unresponsive. I forced restart more than 10 times but it did not help at all. The siri always poped up after each restart somehow. I connected it my iMac that said my phone was in a recovery mode that required a restore. After losing all hope, I hit the restore button.... The touchscreen worked again after factore restore.....super FRUSTRATING

I encountered this issue today after recently updating my iPhone 11 Pro to 17.3.1. It was restarting for about 40 minutes and for a brief moment being on the touch screen was completely unresponsive. Thank goodness I didn't have a busy appointment scheduled say today, this would have been majorly inconvenient.

I just got it to start working, I plugged my iPhone into my Acer with iTunes open, touch volume up button, touch volume down button, and then hold lock button until it reset and slowly touch began to work again.
