iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

After latest iOS 17 update, my iPhone 13 touchscreen is completely unresponsive - It won’t even let me restart or shut down. Major crisis! Hey, Apple: Please help us fix this problem soon!

I am also having similar issues with my iPhone 13. I’ve gone to the Apple Store with no significant help. Waisting anywhere from 3 hours to a 1/2 day with reps/technician who didn’t solve my issues with my phone to include screen going black, phone overheating, and now my touchscreen has been unresponsive for 2 days. I need my phone for my job. I do not think that I should be made to pay for these issues as they definitvely seems to be software issues caused by Apple’s updates. I have tried the volum up/down reset then hold the power button til the Apple logo appear. It will power off but upon restart then screen is still unresponsive. I can’t even make calls with my iPad as I keep getting messages that I need to disconnect from my phone. Siri will not power off my phone because I have a PIN code on it for protection. I am highly disappointed with Apple right now. How is this fair to your patrons?

Fixed on iPhone 15 without full restore.

I initially tried restarting using the buttons as others have described volume up, volume down, hold side button. After failing twice I did the below steps that worked.

  • Plugged into Mac with "Apple Configurator" tool
  • Saw the iPhone was in DFU mode.
  • Found the phone in the list of devices
  • Right clicked and under "Advanced" selected "Revive Device"

This basically reinstalled the latest iOS update on the phone and when the install was complete the touchscreen worked as expected again.

Same here - I have an iPhone 11 and certain parts of my screen do not work anymore like the “o”, “k”, and “m” on my keypad. And the entire right side of the keyboard does not respond at all 99% of the time. Why doesn’t Apple release a bug fix? I’ve tried all the recommended restarts, plugging into Macbook, etc. nothing works. Would like to avoid the factory reset if possible. I’ve been a lifelong consumer of Apple, but if I have to get a new phone, I hear Android does not have this issue.

Same issue for me. Woke up this morning and phone had automatically updated (while unplugged) to iOS 17 latest version. Screen is completely unresponsive. Have tried the up, down, hold reset a dozen times and it still does not function. The phone shows no connection to WiFi and when I do plug it in the phone does not show it is charging. Probably going to take into an Apple Store this morning, but not looking forward to spending my Saturday trying to fix this issue. It has to be software related, since it functioned very well up until the overnight update.

I'm on 15 Pro Max - I updated to 17.2 and it completely bricked my touchscreen. I tried the force restart a couple times but nothing--touch screen wanted nothing to do with any touch. I plugged my phone into my Mac and iTunes popped up, with a popup in middle of screen that said I was in DFU mode (or something Similar to that) and I needed to "Update and Restore" my iPhone. I clicked "Restore" or "Restore & Update" (which factory resets your phone so hopefully you have phone backed up to iCloud) and when it came back from the factory reset, my touch worked again. And it's on the latest update. Kind of a pain in the ***, but your phone is not broken.

I’ve had the same issue. Have a 4 month new iPhone 13mini. Upgraded to iOS 17.1.1 two days ago. Noticed significantly increased battery drain. Also screen intermittently becomes unresponsive to touch/taps. Also was not able to do a hard restart as pressing the left and right physical buttons was not restarting the phone. iOS 17.1.1 is buggy as **** and I would not recommended it to anyone

This has happened to me this morning. Woke up, screen was working perfectly, did the iOS 17.1.1 upgrade and the touch screen function has stopped on restart. I've done the recommended reset and nothing... I've released the right button before the apple appears, when the apple appears and after the apple appears and then disappears and the result is the same. It's and 15 Pro that was working perfectly prior to the software upgrade...

Mine required a screen replacement. I am shocked that the touch failed. I’ve seen people with horribly cracked screens still be able to use their phones. My first iPhone I used for 5 years with no issues. But mine was in perfect condition and touch failed. Makes me concerned the replacement will fail prematurely as well.
