iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

Let’s ensure that you have properly used the Forced Restart method shown below.

——

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Thank God for your post! I was in Paris with a phone that would not charge at first then the screen froze. I was without any way to communicate outside my Airbnb, no google maps, no texts--nothing! Tickets, credit cards, maps, reservations, etc. were on my phone. After waiting hours to try to get my phone to reboot successfully and so I could use the frozen screen your idea of plugging it into my computer and holding the side button until the Apple logo appeared completely worked. I was. not optimistic but it sure did the trick. THANK YOU!

I’ve had the same issue. Have a 4 month new iPhone 13mini. Upgraded to iOS 17.1.1 two days ago. Noticed significantly increased battery drain. Also screen intermittently becomes unresponsive to touch/taps. Also was not able to do a hard restart as pressing the left and right physical buttons was not restarting the phone. iOS 17.1.1 is buggy as **** and I would not recommended it to anyone

My phone now is in a service centre, they can completely erase all content. Then I will restore the backup made before the update… fingers crossed!

It’s clear to me that this is an software problem because not only the touchscreen is unresponsive, also wifi is not started but 4G does, and people who send me a WhataApp get a ‘not delivered‘ status, while Bluetooth does work (my headset connects) so I can answer income phone calls on my headset. Seems to be an incomplete start-up.

After updating my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 17.3, I woke up to my display not being responsive at all. After doing multiple forced restarts, it still didn't work. After that I contacted the apple support, where I was told that the only way to get rid of the problem is to reset the entire iPhone. All of my data was lost since I wasn't able to do a back up. Thanks Apple.

This is the second time this has happened to me. The last time I did what you said with vol. up vol. down, hold and continue holding it with the power button until powered off, continue to hold and the Apple screen comes on with a request to plug into a computer. This then prompts your computer the ability to roll back the update. It worked about 2 months ago. Phone updated last nigh and now it won’t work, reboot and the iTunes tries but says firmware is corrupt!
