iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

Let’s ensure that you have properly used the Forced Restart method shown below.

——

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Me2, Texting in bed woke up touch not responding. Called Apple, the phone was taken into an Apple store. Apple said there was no issue with the hardware after diagnosing, more than likely the issue is known internally, the phones are smart enough to log and report. But, Apple still distanced them self’s and give no option, but to restore and with loss of all information. Sounds like a poor quality device option, you don’t see that in the advertising on their site. (Buy an apple phone and you can lose your information randomly). When I asked. Why there isn’t a work around for something as simple as touchpad having to result in restoring a device. Like being able to plug a mouse in and select digits using a mouse. So, you can at least back your device up and restore. I was cut short. What do you guys’ think am I asking too much? That's got to be a little better than you possibly losing all your personal information, that can not be retrived.

Sigh, I really don’t know what to rn either, after the update I’ve had massive overheating issues and the most annoying one of all the edges of my screen don’t work and sometimes the whole screen doesn’t work. Apparently I’d have to flash my phone completely to remove the iOS 17 from my phone and the phone technician said it’s a possibility that I might have to replace my phone screen! Like WTH???

I got the exact same problem with my brand new iPhone 13 that I have purchased before the release of iOS 17, and this problem appeared after the iOS 17 update.

It is mostly happens to me in middle of calls when the light sensor turns off my screen while I’m talking and goes unresponsive when I finish talking and the light sensor won’t turn the screen back on again then I either have to spam buttons and touch screen or force restart to fix it! Because waiting doesn’t seem to be solving this problem.

Apple please fix this annoying bug.

Same issue for me. Woke up this morning and phone had automatically updated (while unplugged) to iOS 17 latest version. Screen is completely unresponsive. Have tried the up, down, hold reset a dozen times and it still does not function. The phone shows no connection to WiFi and when I do plug it in the phone does not show it is charging. Probably going to take into an Apple Store this morning, but not looking forward to spending my Saturday trying to fix this issue. It has to be software related, since it functioned very well up until the overnight update.

Exactly. My 2-year-old iPhone 12 Pro suddenly stopped working 3 days ago (unresponsive screen - tried the reset suggestions mentioned in this thread, none worked). Took it to the Apple Support Center here in Tokyo, where the very polite assistant explained it was probably a duff screen, which they'd be happy to replace for 42,000 yen (around US$300) although they would not charge if that didn't fix the problem. I pointed out that 1,000+ people in this forum alone have experienced the same fault, so it couldn't be a screen problem. The assistant shrugged. So I let them go ahead with the screen swap but as expected, that didn't fix it. The phone is now useless and I had to shell out 150,000 yen for a new iPhone 15. Great business if you can get it!

My wife’s 13 pro max did the same. Woke up in the morning to an unresponsive screen. Went to Apple store (90 minutes away), they updated it to the latest OS, then restored it to factory settings, then they tried 2 screen replacements, now they want $500 to “open up the back and replace the motherboard.” But they can’t even guarantee that that will fix the problem. The phone is only worth $500 as a trade-in but we’re still paying on it for 18 more months. Will keep trying to restart, plug in to computer, etc. but this really seems like an Apple problem that they caused. Would like to hear anything from Apple about this issue.

I'm facing the same issue on my iPhone SE 2020. Sometimes force restart works 1 in 10 times, the other 9 times touchscreen continues to be unresponsive. And the one time when the screen starts working , it becomes unresponsive again after a short period of time. Haven't managed to identify any specific pattern before the touchscreen goes unresponsive. Even tried factory reset however still this issue continues to persist. Also went to the store they couldn't help either. To my surprise they suspected my iPhone is not a genuine apple product. Have you managed to figure out the resolve to this problem yet? It certainly seems to be a widespread issue affecting multiple users across varied iPhone models, however Apple doesn't seem to care at all!
