iPhone Touch Screen not working - iOS 17

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17 and everything has been working really well. I woke up this morning and my iPhone's touch screen was unresponsive and won't let me unlock my phone. I found a way to restart my phone by clicking the top volume button, then the bottom volume button, and then holding the lock button, however that did not fix the issue. I work primarily off of my phone so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Any tips?

Let’s ensure that you have properly used the Forced Restart method shown below.

——

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Update- after many tries to downgrade my wife’s 13 ProMax yo an older iOS that did not disable the touchscreen, we gave up and went back to the Apple store to pay $500 and have them replace “something” in the back of the phone. They either did not have the correct part or the replacement did not fix the problem so they swapped out the phone for a new one (still charged the $500 for them to open up the back of the old phone). I had purchased an app ($20) that was supposed to help downgrade the OS, but the one that last worked was not “signed” by Apple, so the phone would not accept it. Very frustrated - still feel like this is a software error caused by Apple’s iOS update but no way to prove it. My wife had to have a working phone for her job, so we paid the $500. Still frustrated with lack of knowledge and response from Apple store Genius Bar.

My daughter and I both have iPhone 15 Pro Max purchased in December. No screen issues, no damage, mint condition. We both did the iOS 17.3 update and her phone is now a brick. I also work as an indirect agent for Verizon. I have seen phones purchased from me in store, opened in store, set up working fine and the update gets done before the customer walks away from my desk and the phone turns into a brick.

Just a tip for anyone trying out these solutions:

If you turn off your phone, the Wifi (and iCloud backup) will be turned off and will not turn back on unless you can unlock your phone using the touch screen. Since the force restart seems to only work for some people, I recommend letting your iCloud photos and whatnot completely upload on wifi before shutting off your device. Otherwise you will end up losing all that stuff if the restart doesn't solve the touch issue.

Wanted to maybe save some folks from the situation I'm in, where I have now lost a bunch of photos because I was impatient for a solution (that didn't even work)... c'est la vie!

Hi jochem177 & no one at Apple ever replied to my 4 emails.

iMazing software, that I purchased, restored my iPhone 15 with no data loss, BUT then, 3 weeks later my iPhone Speaker stopped working (ie. people could not hear me on phone calls, but I could hear them, when my iPhone was on Speaker & they could only hear me if my iPhone was not on Speaker). I tried at least 3 software repairs to no avail. I then went back to the Apple store last week, and demanded a replacement iPhone 15, since it was under warranty (who knows what might go next on it) and I now have a 'new?' iPhone 15 but, so far, the battery is now draining a lot faster on my new iPhone 15 than my first iPhone 15 (I have turned OFF many Background App refreshes to see if this will slow down my battery draining so quickly). I now backup my iPhone every 3-4 days with iMazing software (not iTunes) terrified the replacement iPhone 15 will crash too. I've never had any problems, ever, with any of my cell phones in the past like this iPhone 15 Plus.

This problem way back from iOS 16 still appear in iOS 17.4. Recently my iPhone XS got unreponsive AGAIN. Usually every once per two weeks my iPhone acting like this. Previous version hard reset sometimes could resolve. But now I must wait for luck to make it happen. Last night I successfully restoring unresponsive screen just with FIVE hard reset. But now this morning it acting up again. Probably already hard reset TWENTY times. Still not responding.

Here is screenshot of what they attempt to fix in iOS 16, fourth bullet. They aware about unresponsive screen. It's clear they haven't fix it. In fact from previous reply on this thread, it also affecting newer model. 13, 14... like what the...bug is this? I probably attempt to DFU restore tonight.

Same issue with my up to date iPhone X. Display works, but no touches work whatsoever. What worked for me: Force Restart it 20X in a row. Cannot even answer calls. Also, I couldn't even log in here to post a comment b/c I needed to check my phone for a code, but my phones broke. Apple has no other work around for this. I tried, and the apple website literally said wait till later when I do have my apple device. Well, its broke. Not sure how long it will work so I'm getting a new phone today. Thanks apple for making inferior, temperamental products. You forever lost this customer. Also, why on gods green earth would you make an update so buggy it neutralizes a phone completely??
