Can't start new iphone se

I've been trying to set up my new se and transfer the data from my old iphone to my new one but it keeps getting stuck downloading software and I just have the buffering circle going round and round for hours, I've made sure the software on my old one is up to date but it hasn't made any difference and no matter how many times I start again it keeps getting stuck at the same point every time. Is there anything I can do to either get it to actually download the update or leave it till after the phone is set up and download it later?

For anyone who might have this problem in the future and finds this thread, I managed to find the solution with the help of Apple support. After starting the Quick Start and going through a few screens you will get the option to manually choose where your apps and data are transferred from, choose don't transfer any data, this should get you to a generic home screen. From there go into Settings - General - Software Update and download any and all of them in order, when they have all installed go back into Settings - General and scroll all the way to the bottom and choose Transfer or Reset iPhone to do a factory reset. Agree to delete all of the existing data on the phone and it will restart as if you had just taken it out of the box, at which point you can do Quick Start properly and move all of the apps and data from your old phone to the new one without being blocked by an update. This worked for me so I hope this helps.

I just bought the iphone 14 Pro and it will not install. I have tried several times with no success. I even left it overnight and it has not changed. Also most of my apps are not showing as being backed up in the cloud and I have a TB of storage. I do not want to reinstall the one by one on the new phone. I am frustrated. Anyone had any success with this? Thanks!

@Tawnie Thank you SO MUCH! I have been trying to do transfer for Two days since getting the 14 & did hrs with no result UNTIL I came across this post. I successfully just transferred Again THANK YOU!!!!!!

I did that and went through an hour and half of the iOS 17 update. Then I reset the phone and to my surprise the update was gone and 16.3.5 something of that was back. Said phone is updated and below said install iOS 17 😐

It's trying to do the update as part of the data migration process, connecting it to my computer when it isn't set up isn't going to help with that.
