-------

Troubleshooting Decompressing a ZIP File:

A. Decompress in Safe Mode:

Boot in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, login items do not load at log in, certain System Preferences are set aside, and damaged system files (caches) are fixed. So, see if you can decompress it in that.

B. Create a New Admin User:

Try creating a new Administrator user for this Mac. See if you get the same error. If not, then it is an issue with your current user. If so, then it is a use with your entire macOS. So, reinstalling the macOS would be wisest.

C. Single-Out this Mac:

What happens when you try decompressing this on a different computer? See if you can successfully do so on a different Mac, or a PC, even. You can try this on a mobile device, even.

If you launch Terminal app and issue an unzip -l command on the zip file from the command line, what happens?

The following two unzip commands test the zip archive. You should get a listing of the contents of the zip archive from the first, if it is valid. The second command tests the checksums within the zip.

unzip -l filename.zip
unzip -t filename.zip

Troubleshot the Mac:

External Servers Didn't Work? Well, then, in turn, try troubleshooting this on this Mac itself. In relevance to my first reply:

  • Decompress in Safe Mode: It could be a macOS-related issue

  • Create a New Admin User: It could be a User-related issue

  • Single-Out this Mac: It could be a Mac-related issue

With two unrelated systems reporting similar issues accessing the zip archive contents, and with the local u zip commands reporting no contents? It seems much more efficient and direct to examine the zip archive itself, no?
