Watch still getting notifications in sleep mode

I can’t remember exactly, but I think it’s when I updated to iOS 16 that my Watch continued to get notifications while in sleep mode. I have read many things in regards to fixing it, and have performed all of them with no success. I love sleep mode so much because it could track my sleep and silence all the messages. I might get late into the night or early mornings. That is not been the case for the past few months. randomly getting woken up from text messages. in focus, I have it to where none of my settings allow apps, even for do not disturb and work mode please help. I thought I updated to iOS 17 on my phone today as well as iOS 10 on my watch because I got a notification that my watch was up-to-date but as soon as I typed this out I double checked and my watch iOS is currently downloading.
