iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17
I noticed my phone gets hot. But then what's even worse I noticed is that the battery drains so much. I upgraded because my iPhone 11 battery only lasts for a day but then getting this phone didn't make difference: i dont know what to do. Can we get a replacement or everyone has the same issue? I turned always on display off but it's still draining fast
i already called apple to return mine before the window closed.... i hope more people do the same and get apples attention and fix issue asap. i will just wait for iphone 16 i guess since my iphone 14 pro max last me whole daya nd iphone 15 pro max only about 3-4hr regular use..
let your phone reach low battery then Restart your device
Go to battery settings turn off the battery Charging Optimization Select None
let it charge full then switch charging optimization back on and observe it if it’s still draining
good luck!
The problem with this "solution" or "test", as many others I've come up with, is that it takes a day or 2 to go through a full cycle. Tomorrow I've had my phone for 14 days and though I'm sure Apple will swap it if it turns out to me a lemon, I'm getting tired of trying all kinds of things. This shouldn't be necessary. It's a €1400 euro device, for that kind of money I expect it to work. Flawlessly. Like all my other phones since the iPhone 3 did. There can be a very complex interplay of factors that cause this issue which can be incredibly hard to debug. But I also don't feel like going through days, or even weeks, of trying to troubleshoot and figure out this issue myself. I've spent literal days by now trying to get my phone to have a decent batterylife and I'm very, VERY, close to giving up, getting in my car and go be angry in an Apple store and demand a swap. Now. Because I'm fed up with it. Nevertheless, thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.

I'm on the fence whether to factory reset and restore a backup or trying your method. I'm leaning towards the first as it will most likely be what I'll end up doing anyway, so that'll save me a day or two.

Try updating to iOS 17.0.3.
I have been on this thread for some time now waiting and hoping. I updated it yesterday with the last update and have still experienced the battery drain and overheating. Anyone have better or same results???
Yup, updated it as soon as the update came out.. phone was still heating up a decent amount when I was on FaceTime. And the battery is absolute garbage and I barely use it. Gonna take mine to Apple on Monday and ask for them to switch it out with one of the ‘newer ones’ being shipped over
At this point I'm just documenting the "journey". Forgive me for the upcoming wall of text.
Called with Apple today to have my phone replaced. I think I've spoken to about 7 people in total, they kept transferring me to other departments from aftersales to Apple care to tech support. Promises were made and broken the next transfer, everybody made notes in the system but never could the next person see these notes. At this time I'm pretty annoyed.
I requested Apple to send a new phone first so I wouldn't be without a phone for a week; one of the persons I spoke strongly hinted that this would be no problem but then the next one said that was never an option and is never done. Which is 100% untrue; I had something with my iPhone 5/6/7 or so at the time and back then I was sent a new phone without a problem and I returned the faulty one in the same box it came in. But ok.
So my replacement will come "probably" within a week or 2, 3. Meanwhile I'm supposed to be... unreachable? I happen to have my 13 Pro Max still but what if I sold it? (In fact, I actually had to return in to the company, but we still had it in storage). Nobody would budge. Ok. "Then can I go to the store and swap it there?" First I was told no (because somehow they thought I was from Belgium even though they all asked for the Invoice ID and address and also had my +31 (Netherlands) phone number on display 🤪) and when they found out I was from the Netherlands then suddenly it was possible. But then the phone would be credited to the original (company) creditcard and I would have to pay from my own pocket (and somehow get the money back, which is a hassle, from the company). Also they couldn't guarantee they'd have my model and wouldn't inquire and maybe have them put one aside for me. Since it's a 2hrs drive (4hrs both ways) I didn't want to risk heading over there for nothing.
In the end I gave in. I got exhausted of Apple not wanting to cooperate and I gave up after over an hour on my (quickly draining and heating) phone (that had to be put on a charger midway the call). Even though I logged my issue with Apple over a week ago (well within the 14 day return period) they kept insisting that I was over the 14 day return period (which is 3 days over now). They then offered me a 'gesture' for all my trouble. They were very secretive of it, wouldn't say what it was, but I'm 99% sure it's something like 'free 6 months Apple Music' or something. I. Don't. Care. I don't need your 'gesture', I want a working phone. Typing this all out makes me wonder why I even still want an Apple phone... Gues I'm too deep (like elbow deep) in the Apple ecosystem and I'm sort-of hostage.
Anyway. I took my iPhone 13 Pro Max, restored it from backup, factory reset the 15 Pro Max and, lo and behold, even after being factory reset hours ago it's still warm (31 degrees celcius (actually measured) currently) to the touch and doing absolutely nothing. This also rules out anything in my settings / profile. UPS will pick it up tomorrow; I put it back in the original packaging it came in and I'll try to remember to take one last glance at the battery state (even though it won't show a percentage at the "Hello" screen) before I hand it over to the delivery person tomorrow. I'm convinced it will be on low battery, if not 100% drained by then.
I hope this is the end of it. My replacement should arrive in "2 to 3 weeks max.", even thought I received an email that says 14-21 november. I was assured, and I believe this although I don't know why, that the return would be handled with priority and I wouldn't have to wait 5 weeks for my replacement. We'll see. At this point I'm just tired, weary from dealing with Apple today, weary from trying everything under the sun to figure out what was wrong with it for the past 2 weeks and just want it to be over. I understand Apple has a popular product, a huge customer base and loyal fans. I've been one since the iPhone 3. Watches, macbooks, tablets, phones, you-name-it and I've owned it at some point or still do. I have a literal "shrine" with empty Apple packaging from all the products I've owned over the years. But, now, honestly, I feel mostly very disappointed by Apple and especially by Apple Customer Care. Let's hope the replacement functions properly.
Update :. After the update i did let the battery drain. Restarted the phone. Then put optimized charging off.. charged it to 100% and then put optimized charging on. At first it seems the battery is better. But the battery is still ****. Its better then it was but its still not good. Its still drains alot. Even with 5G off. 120hz off and background refresh off. I really hope apple is gonna fix the battery issue. Because i didnt pay so much to have a bad battery. (Iphone 15 pro)
Went to the Apple Store yesterday, I have the new pro max, they factory reset my phone.. said it is a problem with doing the data transfer from my old phone (13 pro max) to the new one and that’s why it keeps draining so fast. Lost all my texts on my phone.. because of the reset had to completely redo all my folders and app sign ins…. And today the battery still isn’t that good.. it was at 98% last night and it’s already at 75% and I have only done 46 minutes of screen time this morning. I can’t believe we’re dealing with this.. went through all of that and the battery is still trash!?! The guy at the store said if in the coming months apple gets enough complaints and sees that there really is a problem with that battery which there clearly is.. they would have to do a recall and send us new phones..
yesterday i used 90% with only 4.2 hours of active screen time… my iphone 13 with 78% is slighty worse than my iphone 15 pro max…. those 2 phones shouldnt even come close in battery life. Also, my iphone overheats and drains battery fast while using the camera app. I can take 2 photos and my phone would overheat.
Hey Rob. Im happy to hear that you are happy!. What do you suggest for me? I have the iphone 15 pro. (Not max model) but my battery is draining hard. And im kinda disappointed that the battery is draining to much. Should i also ask for a replacement? Or what should you suggest what i should do? Because i dont know anymore :(
Yea i tried already much things and posted screenshot above this. That 2/3hours screentime and battery going from 100% to 40%.. while always display is off, 5G is off, Background refresh is off. And even 120hz is off. And other things that can use alot of battery
I have the 15 Pro and had issues with mine getting hot (especially on calls), the battery draining, and random restarts. I started a chat with Apple Support and they ran some remote diagnostics. They determined that I did have a hardware issue and gave me 3 options to get it replaced. Take to the Apple Store, send it in and wait for a replacement, or Express Replacement where they put a hold charge on your charge card for the cost of the phone, but send you one in advance. It normally comes with a fee to do that, but it was waived because I had AppleCare. Got the replacement in 2 days, set up the new phone and then sent the bad one back. The new phone was the answer to my issue. They cleared the hold on my card when they got the bad phone back. Except for the initial inconvenience with the bad phone, the rest of the process was well handled. It would be worth the try to do the support chat and see if they’ll run the diagnostics. Good luck.
