iPhone 15 Pro Max Carplay Issues

I have a 2022 Wrangler with the 8.4" UConnect and I have issues with Carplay and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I did not have the issue with the 13 Pro Max I traded in. But Carplay only seems to connect intermittently. About every other time I get in I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get to connect. Id assume that this is an iPhone issue since the 13 was fine. The 13 also had iOS 17 installed so wouldnt think it is a software issue either. Please advise. Thank you.

2019 Ram 2500 and iPhone 15 pro. I have to plug it in several times to get CarPlay to work. All the iPhones I have had the past few years and my wife's and daughter's phones work fine. I even bought different cables to try. It is just something with the iPhone 15 Pro. Please help.

It does not appear Apple is going to fix this, due to possibly an inability to. I called support for this same issue on my 15 pro with a RAM 12” connect. For nearly an hour while troubleshooting and sending logs they played dumb as if they’d never heard of the problem, then at the end of call finally admitted they knew of the issue. I was supposed to have been called back on the case, but they never did (it’s been well over a month).

My friend told me there’s supposedly a class action being organized due to the growing volume of iPhone users affected. I’ll post back the info if that’s actually true information. (I haven’t seen any details yet)

I am also having this issue on my 2021 Ram 1500 with the 12” display. It’s not the cords. It’s 109% the iPhone. I usually have to connect several times for CarPlay to engage. Once up, it’s solid. But if I turn off them on the car (not disconnecting the cord) it usually won’t reconnect…requiring me to manually disconnect and try again.

I have the same or similar issue. What was so frustrating is that the problem seemed to be very intermittent.

Technical Details:

2018 Honda Accord - iPhone 15 Pro Max, SW 17.1.1 ( plus some earlier versions)

Problem:

1) Sometimes it connects to Carplay and it will work.

2) Sometimes it will connect and then disconnect, connect and disconnect.. (to include the charging of the phone)

3) Sometimes it will connect and the carplay will not connect, but it will charge the phone.

Troubeshooting:

I tried several USB-C cables to include a standard Apple USB-C with a couple of different USB-A to USB-C adapters. The adpaters were the same brand, but different adapters. The cables and adapters tested good in other applications (e.g. connecting to computer) and charging from power outlet. These same adapters and USB-C cables worked with carplay sometimes.

Tentative Resolution:

I noticed what seemed to be a correlation between the charge percentage on the phone and when the issue happens. I am not sure if there is an exact % charge level, but it appears that it happens when the charge is below 70% on the phone, but not when it is above that percentage. I haven't taken the time to try to pin it down to a specific %, but generally it seemed more likely to happen the lower the power level and I haven't yet seen it when the phone is closer to fully charged.

I have a 2024 Rubicon and an iPhone 15 pro. My wireless CarPlay connection to Uconnrct 5 has worked well, thankfully after reading all of this however the only thing that isn't working are my text notification sounds.

My phone is not on silence and i do not have focus do not disturb set. My iPhone 13 2 weeks ago worked just fine. Anyone else with just text notification sounds not audible?

Had to try a few cables. Got it to work. Then it would stop working randomly.

Then it froze my connect system and I had to pull a fuse out to restart it and then wait hours for the system to restart. Was without the ability to control air conditioning/heater and no backup cam for hours.

I’ve contacted them and their supervisor as well to work on this issue for about 4 hours we tried and I’ve purchased so many cables and even the WiFi cable for apple CarPlay, nothing is working. I agree with you, I would hate to go back to my 11. Other then the CarPlay function not working (wireless or plugged) the 15pm is nice but clearly it’s something with the actual phone itself and not the vehicles or cables. For the amount you spend on the phone this is outrageous

Abandoned the above posted as problems continued. I got a new tech support rep from Apple. He sent me a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 3 cable. It is super stiff, but I achieve a connection to Apple CarPlay 75% of the time. I need to tether my iPhone 15 pro with an unlocked screen before starting my ‘22 Wrangler Rubicon 8.4” UConnect. It achieves connection quickly.

thus far (since September) this is the best CarPlay results I have had with my 15 Pro.

My iphone 15 max pro will only play music from my spotify app if i use a cord that attaches from phone to USB outlet in car - not the regular car charger previously used on phones 14 and below . When connecting , you must select USB not Bluetooth from the car menu . I drive a 2010 Lexus 350 . It’s incredibly annoying and i hope apple addresses this issue ASap . Like others , I’ve spent a lot of $ throwing away all previous chargers etc .

Anyone who has had this problem fixed with 17.2 update might want to consider not updating to the latest 17.2.1 release. Someone on another forum I’m following said they are having the issue again since they did the new update. If anyone on 17.2.1 can confirm this is back that would be great. I’m not updating until 18… or I decide to cave and go android!
