we have to voice this on that link. Everyone do it and we should get a great response Apple is known for.

I’ve noticed the same bing and wonder if it is a bug, because it still displays the satellite view in iOS 16 on my phone, which can’t update to 17. I can find no way to change the view, either, and it is annoying.

Once I click the first street map that comes up, I do get satellite view, and it does seem to follow the person fairly well. The icon doesn’t pulse as it used to, but that is not a problem for me. So, much better.

I absolutely HATE only seeing the standard only view. I have 3 teens and I check their location daily. I don't need a route to them!!! What I do need is to see an exact satellite view. It makes no sense to have changed it back to standard view. Apple should know parents check their kids location to make sure they're where they say they are and we need satellite view for that! Having a real time view helps us to visualize where they are. I can't visualize where they are in standard view. Atleast with satellite we could see it in real time because I may not be able to visualize the address they're at on a blue and gray map. It's the stupidest update!

Even the standard map is crooked, not lined up correctly E/W and N/S. Another thing I’ve noticed is that some contacts are no longer showing their emojis in messages..not all, just some. iOS 17 is definitely a work in progress at this point.

I live on a property of 165 acres, and it’s very important that I have the satellite view in the iMessage feature. It was perfect before. Why on earth would they remove it on such an advanced iOS? It’s baffling. It’s like we’ve gone back 10 years. Apple, can you hear me? Please reinstate the satellite view.

I posted a feedback message about this on Apple’s feedback site, citing it as a bug, though I’m not sure it wasn’t intentional. Don’t know if they pay attention to posts like ours. Maybe more of us need to post a feedback so they know it is a problem.

I have given a feedback to Apple about this issue and also reported it yesterday to a support specialist on a phone call. She said to be sure to do a Feedback, as that is the best way to let Apple know this issue is affecting more than a few people. They may not have time to be reading all the community discussions.

If everyone would contact apple through chat and speak to someone maybe it will get them to fix this issue. I chatted and they sent me to a page where I could request for certain features to be brought back and I filled it out. I no longer have the link since I deleted my text with them but they should be able to give it to you. Maybe if enough of us complain they will bring back the satellite view.

If you go into Messages and then tap the contact's name and then the small map with their location, you get to Maps in general Map View.

At the bottom there is the time it would take you to get to the contact's location. Tap in that, it will open the satellite map, where you can zoom in and see, as previously, the actual satellite image of where your contact is.

I hope that helps, just discovered this by trying things out. Had the same thought as you all, this is a very useful feature.

It's not just the phone -- my iMac computer does not have satellite view for contacts now either. I don't want to go back and forth from contacts to "find my" when I want to send a text but need to check location first! This was a stupid move and I hope Apple fixes it!

But it doesn’t come up as satellite at first, and it doesn’t appear to be the live following that we had in iOS 16..at least the icon doesn’t move or pulse like it did when it was live. And it’s another step or two…might as well just go to FindMy app to begin with. Better but not good enough.

Apple please fix this ASAP! This was very useful and for parents necessary. Please bring this back to messages
