iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Same thing with the 2017 Honda civic and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m honestly disappointed to see that Apple hasn’t addressed this yet. I love this phone but I love CarPlay more, and I might have to switch to something else if this isn’t resolved.

My 2023 Mazda CX5 will not connect with my new Apple Iphone 15 Pro Max. I tried every solution available, checked bluetooth, used different cord, made sure everything was enabled. I finally called Apple Support who was not of great help. The rep took me through everything I already tried and ended up telling me there must be a firmware update for my car I would need to contact Mazda. I contacted Mazda who has no idea if there is or is not a firmware update but have to wait a week for an appointment to go in and have it checked. This is ridiculous!!!!! My Iphone 12 Pro Max worked fine with my Apple Car Play, I am not technology illiterate and honestly think it is a Apple issue but I will go to the Mazda dealer and ensure there is or is not a firmware update but this is crazy just to get my Carplay to work to use the GPS!!!!! Currently going old school with dash mount holder as I use my GPS for work and the phone rolling around wasn't working .... $1500 to upgrade to new phone and this, smh

Yep 100% NOT the vehicle manufacturer's fault. Just checked to see if there is an update for the UConnect system (8,4") on the '22 Wrangler Rubicon and there is NOT. As what Moondance46 has said, my 14 Pro worked flawlessly for a year connected via USB A to lightning even running iOS 17.0.1. 6 hours over 2 days spent on the phone with Apple Tech Support senior supervisor and multiple logs sent so they can "see" what is causing the non-recognition of the 15 Pro.

I have ordered the Lightning to USB C Adapter from the Apple Store, to see if it resolves the issue - since it was added to the store Sept. 20 and specifically mentions "for use with CarPlay." Should be coming today, but appears "delayed" in transit. :-(

I don't think it's a cable-only issue, at least not for me.

I have two Hondas, a 2008 & 2019. Neither have a wireless CarPlay option and both have USB-A sockets.

iPhone 14 worked fine in both.

My new iPhone 15, is intermittent at best. It will connect about 30% of the time, and even when it does it will sometimes disconnect. So if it was a cable, I would think my experience would be different.

Regardless, I have tried several types of cables, including cables bought from the Apple Store, all high-quality.

I am not happy about this, at all and if I hadn't already turned in my old 14, I would send this back.

My Mazda CX-30 uses a wired connection for CarPlay and just would not activate CarPlay on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Here's how I fixed this issue:

First I purchased an inexpensive cable from Best Buy:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/best-buy-essentials-3-usb-c-to-usb-charge-and-sync-cable-black/6456381.p?skuId=6456381

Then I did the following:

  1. Remove the phone connection from from the car's Bluetooth Settings menu.
  2. Turn off the car.
  3. Turn the car back on.
  4. Plug the phone into the car using the USB-C to USB charge and sync cable.
  5. The car will ask to enable CarPlay. Select OK or Always.
  6. The phone will then ask to set up CarPlay. Just follow the prompts.
  7. At this point CarPlay works normally again.
  8. Now you can add your Bluetooth connection for the phone back to the car's Bluetooth Settings, but you will have to first remove the cable to do this.
  9. After setting up the Bluetooth connection again, both Bluetooth and CarPlay function normally. To use CarPlay, just plug in the phone as usual (wired connection).

I really hope my solution helps other people experiencing this problem.

Also, the old USB-C to USB cable I had tried first did not work. It's important to purchase the cable that I linked to above, although I think any newer cable should work. Just make sure it is a "charge and sync" cable.

Cheers!

For many of you the port for your vehicle and the cable you’re using may be the issue. You may need to buy the adapter. Sounds like most of you saying you’re having CarPlay issues are using cars that has wired only CarPlay. Check user forums for your vehicles also to see what others are experiencing. This issue may not be the phone but the compatibility of the port and/cables you are using. Specifically those of you that only have USB-A ports…the year of your car is irrelevant…it’s more about the port the manufacturer used or in some cases the head unit needing an update. I have both a USB-A and USB-C port in my car but never use them since I have wireless CarPlay. I will try both ports this evening and see if I can replicate the issues some are having.

Jeep 2022 Wrangler - iPhone 12,13,14 works fine and in 1 second jeep detects the apple car play. But iPhone 15 pro , 15 pro max are garbage. Type c original cable can’t even detect apple car play. It’s charging my phone but no car play working. Fix it apple or go back to lighting cable. We use to buy apple bcz of your stranded and now even you are like other android phones, type C.

I have a 2022 Wrangler and have the same issue. Its not the cable or the port as I have tried both ports and four different cables to include the one that came with the device. One of the cables I tried was a USB 3.2 v2 10Gb cable which most certainly could handle both data and charge. Carplay worked perfectly find with a 13PM on 17.0.2. This fault lies with the phone and not with the manufacturer of the vehicle. Looking around at different forums on the web, there are lots of people with this issue.

See that is the issue. Some work some dont. Some have no issues in the exact same vehicle while others do. So yes this is an Apple issue. They need to figure out why some work fine where others do not. It could be software interfering or it could be a hardware issue. I have watched mine try to connect across the top of the screen, list the last song that was playing then say no device. When we were connecting my wife's phone for the first time, I deleted everything out of her system. After plugging in, the phone asked about allowing CarPlay then stopped there. So no matter what, it is indeed up to Apple to figure out why their phone is not working across many vehicle manufacturers. If it was a vehicle software issue, then all vehicles with the same software would work or not work and that isnt the case.

I tried several cables and they didn’t work. I bought a usb-c adapter and used the cable that came WITH my new phone and it worked.
