iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Problem Solved!!!

I bought a new iPhone 15 ProMax and had the same problem with CarPlay not working in my 2023 Mazda CX-5. I called Apple Support and spoke to several representatives who could not offer a successful solution. They told me it was a problem with Mazda. However, one Apple representative told me it was a problem with the iPhone 15 that Apple is aware of and to wait until they fix it.

I went to Staples and bought this charger- Belkin BOOSTCHARGE 3.3' USB A to USB C Power Cable, Male to Male, White (CAB002BT1MWH) for $12.99. And voila, CarPlay is working just fine! I didn't have to change my iPhone name, forget my car, or even reboot my iPhone.

I hope this helps others who need help with CarPlay not working with their iPhone 15. I was seriously going to return my phone tomorrow and get an iPhone 14 or even 13. Now I think I'll keep it.

I have a 2019 Peugeot 3008 and an iPhone 15 - CarPlay would not work with the USB-A to USB-C cable which I bought to keep in the car.

Having read so many replies about cables not working, I took the 6 compatible cables I had and tested them all in the car. Only 2 of the 6 worked, including one apple USB-C to C cable fitted with a USB-A adapter.

Neither of the 2 worked however unless I had Bluetooth disconnected.

I hope this helps somebody!

This fix came from chatting with Apple Support - Be sure your IPhone settings are correct: Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled. Mine was OFF (likely by IPhone default) & once I turned it on, my phone recognized Apple CarPlay.

I'm an owner of a Ferrari Roma MY2021 and Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster MY2020 and have suffered this problem for weeks since I bought a new iPhone 15 Pro on the day it launched. Because I haven't updated the software of the Ferrari, neither of the two supports Wireless CarPlay, so I was in the same situation as you and had to fix the problem.

Long story short, the problem was the cable and both works well with the USB-A to USB-C cables. I mean, iPhone 15 Pro x Ferrari and iPhone 15 x Lamborghini. Guess the cables i'd tried before were charging only (not transferring data). Had bought Belkin USB-C to USB-A Cable (it says it is a 1M, 3.3FT, 10Gbps USB-C 3.1 Cable. Can't find SKU number, sorry.) before I read this thread, and bought the recommended Anker 322 USB-A to USB-C Cable 6ft Braided. Both work fine. Moreover, I came to know that my Aventador supports Android Auto. I tried connecting my Galaxy ZFold 4 with the Anker cable and the Android Auto showed up. I'd thought the car doesn't support Android Auto before. In contrast, Roma didn't support Android Auto.

Someone in this thread said they felt the sound quality also got better after changing the USB cable. It could be a sort of placebo, but I felt so too, anyways.

2023 Subaru Forester with CarPlay. Iphone 15

Another user had it right for the solution when I tried it.

I deleted my Iphone 15 ID used during first try from car’s blue tooth devices. Renamed my Iphone 15. Then used car’s blue tooth connection to find it and the Subaru screen found it and provided pairing ID, my Iphone 15 recognized it and I allowed pairing.

Played music from phone to car via blue tooth no problem. Then I connected the USB-C cable to my phone with the cable having a standard male USB connection at other end and plugged into Subaru USB port. Pressed CarPlay on Subaru panel, and now Carplay is working just fine with Subaru screen interface.

Maybe an Apple update could fix this for us all soon. I’ve tried so many cables and adapters and nothing. Going to try a data transfer cable and hope that helps.

This is not an Apple software issue.

The problem is that there are adapters and cables for USB-C which are designed to only charge the connected device; you need an adapter or cable that will both charge it and pass data.

Sadly, most manufacturers do not note this on their retail packaging, they only mention it on their web site, if any.

Descriptions on sites like Amazon often do not, either.

All Apple adapters pass both power and data, but so do many from other manufacturers.

Using a data transfer cable should resolve your issue.

I had the same issue. I just got a new iPhone 15 Pro. I have a 2018 car that doesnt support wireless Carplay. I bought a USB-a to USB-c from the AT&T store. At first, it didnt recognize. And that was frustrating. I read online that Anker USB-a to USB-c works, so I ordered that and I am still waiting for it to be delivered. BUT then, I read something about making sure Siri was set to 'on'. I checked my phone and it was set to 'off'. So I enabled that by going through the prompts. And now the AT&T USB-a to USB-c cable works with Carplay.

I finally have mine working again without issue. I removed my Apple CarPlay profile from my vehicles infotainment unit, then removed the CarPlay profile from my iPhone 15 Pro Max under settings->general->carplay, then powered off my vehicle and iPhone. Plugged the cable back into the iPhone, powered up the vehicle and re-setup the CarPlay profile. Now it’s working without issue.

I have a 2021 Volvo XC 60 and just bought an iPhone 15pro max. The car only has USB A connections. I tried the UsbC to USB C supplied apple cable with a USBC to USB A adapter and I was not able to get CarPlay to work. I ordered a USB A to. USB C 3’cable from Belkin and it now works with CarPlay. I think the issue was it doesn’t like an adapter rather you should try a cable only solution.

I finally got mine working perfectly after weeks of trying. I drive a 2021 Lexus RX. I am writing this to help people out because this was very frustrating for me. Apple support was of no help. Here's what worked for me:

  1. The port. The only USB ports enabled for CarPlay in a Lexus are located in the center console. All other USB ports in the car are for charging only. Not only that, I found out that only the top UAB-A port in the center console works with iPhone 15 CarPlay while the bottom one does not work. So play around with both ports if one does not work.
  2. Cables. Some cables work while others don't. In my case - a cheap IKEA cable works and also a cable that came with Kindle. But now I know that a majority of cables should work. Cable wasn't the main problem.
  3. This is most important and I think will solve the problem for a lot of people. When you plug in a new phone for the first, you need to "Allow CarPlay while locked". I always plugged in my iPhone screen locked, a pop-up window would appear on my phone for a millisecond - asking if I want to allow the use of CarPlay with my screen locked. I didn't notice this pop-up before. Now, once I pressed "Allow", CarPlay works flawlessly every time I connect the phone. So try connecting the phone with your screen unlocked so that you can get that pop-up window and can press "Allow CarPlay while locked". If you don't go through this step, CarPlay will not work.

My car which only has the cable connect option did not even acknowledge that my iphone 15 pro was connected despite connecting just fine to my old 13 pro. It would not recognize the 15 pro at all, so I tried 3 different cables with no luck. Turns out that the cable really matters. I ended up just buying a new 10Gbps, USB 3.1 Gen 2 "data" USB cable from amazon and it recognized it immediately and hasn't dropped off once since, very solid connection and high quality cable: https://a.co/d/75RaOXP

I’ll chime in once again.

I had the same problems with my 2019 BMW and an iPhone 15 Pro Max. It would connect and disconnect over and over. I deleted everything from my BMW. I deleted all of the phones cleared the entire head unit and made it as if it was coming off the showroom floor. I then made sure my iPhone 15 was updated to the latest iOS and I updated ALL of my apps. I was then able to get it to connect using the Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. It didn’t work the first time out of the gate, I had to delete the phone from the car and do the pairing process a couple of times, but after a few tries it began working. I’m just mentioning the brand of cable that I used, although other people have had success with other USB-A to USB-C cables. After using it via the cable for a few days I forgot to plug it in one day and it automatically connected via Bluetooth by itself.

All I can say is my iPhone 15 Pro Max connects way faster than my iPhone 11 Pro ever did, it stays connected and everything works perfectly.

Someone else mentioned that they had to delete and reinstall Google maps. I didn’t have to do that but it’s worth a try. If you read some of the older posts from people that have had success, it seems most folks had to clear their cars system thoroughly, sometimes multiple times before they had success.

I’m just mentioning that my iPhone 15 Pro Max works better than any iPhone I’ve paired with my car system. I see people saying they want to return their iPhone, so I figured I’d tell my story
