Does Carplay still eat data when using downloaded maps with IOS 17

iOS 17 has updated the Maps app so you can store maps offline before you travel and use them while traveling without needing to use up cellular data.

Carplay has always sucked up cellular data if cellular data is enabled for Maps, whether or not you're actually using it at the time. If I store a map before a trip, does this still happen?

Excessive map data usage starting with iOS 16 I noticed that my cell data was dramatically increasing, so I went back and reviewed my data usage. It looks like every time I use my phone to navigate, the Maps app is using somewhere around 300-400 megs of data. In the past 5 weeks since I upgraded to iOS 16, it has burned through over 13 gigs of data. I finally had to disable cellular when traveling so I wouldn't go over my data cap. The details: iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 16 Using CarPlay to navigate with the traffic details turned on, but I'm not using turn-by-turn; I'm only using it for traffic alerts My commute is about 35 miles/60 minutes long, but it uses the same amount of data if I turn on navigation for a short trip (<5 miles) Looking at my cell phone company records, I've never used more than 100 megs of data in a single sitting prior to the release of iOS 16. (I'm on WiFi a LOT, so I don't use a ton of cell data.) I have restarted my phone multiple times, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Maps app. Still no luck. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Is "Only Use Offline Maps" setting effective for Data Saving? I am confused about "only use offline maps" settings. I'm turning it on because I want fast preloaded maps, and I don't want my phone to use any data in area where my map is cached. Is apple maps smart enough to not use data if the map is cached? iOS 17, just use my saved maps when I'm in that area without impacting my data rates. If I venture outside of that area, please use the data to populate a new map. Why is "only use offline maps" even an option? [Edited by Moderator]
