iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

Well, this is my 6th or 7th iphone. Have dropped them all because life happens. Put a new case on my phone on Wed. Military grade. I thought the case was all scratched, so I bought another Otterbox case. When I took my iPhone 15 Pro out of the case I found that it is the back glass of my phone that is shattered everywhere. To say I'm unhappy is an understatement. The front of the screen is in perfect condition. I'm thrilled that yours has held up so well. Unfortunately, I concur with all of the other posters and their disappointment with this product.

I would not recommend buying the IPhone 15 pro, pro max or any 15’s at all. They are not very durable at all and not worth the money. I had my iPhone 13 Pro Max for 4 years and not once did it break even after it hit the ground my 13 pro max was just fine.

My iPhone 15 pro max has an otter box on it W/MagSafe and it had a removable pop socket, I had it in my back pocket I got into my car sat down and I heard a crack but I didn’t think anything of it until my phone was charging and I seen the back of my phone. Apple needs to get their heads on straight and start taking care of their customers

I don't think that's the issue.

We don't know the type of the floor, the angle, or the part of your phone that hit the floor when you dropped it. No phone is unbreakable and we don't expect that from phones, it is against physics.

But the new series has to be, at least, as strong as its predecessor, or possibly, stronger than it.

iPhone 15PM fails radically in that sense.

There are controlled tests showing clearly iPhone 15PM is way too fragile than 14. Even not compared to the previous iPhones, iPhone 15PM is quite weak itself.

Thing broke in my back pocket shattered back completely, may not be stress testing my phone but I don’t slouch around and do nothing all day I’m constant working on projects so not sure who your average user is. This model was a waste and hassle, who wants to keep replacing the back of their phone constant trips to the Apple Store or be forced to buy cover cases and apple care extension to prevent damage.

I have NEVER broke an iPhone. I am usually not very careful. I now have a 15pro max and I'm on my second back glass in a month. I highly second this. I also have a $60 case-mate on my phone. It was dropped from less than a 2-3ft height. The phone case states it offers 10ft protection. It's also cheaper to repair this glass than it was for previous models($199) they said and I believe it is bc it is cheaply made.

I disagree. I've been a long time iPhone users (from iPhone 4S), and switched from a iPhone 14 pro to iPhone 15 Pro, none of my previous phones' back was cracked, but the back of my iPhone 15 pro was cracked this time after a drop even with a case on. I ensure you this is not single case, as you can find so many 15 pro model users facing similar back glass cracking issues.

I have never broken an iphone since my first iphone many years ago. I have exclusively used Rokform cases and beat the living **** out of my phones. This iphone 15, I have not beaten since I haven't been able to do all of the things you would typically use a Rokform case for and it has now broken twice. The iphone 15 is very poor when it comes to relative durability vs previous generations 12, 11, 8, 6, 5 that I have owned. I drop my phone a few times a week and previous phones I have literally crashed on or dropped while moving down the trail at speed, etc...and never broke a single iphone. This iphone 15 is going to catch up all the repairs ive not had to do over the passed 10-15 years!

The back glass repair is $169 and 3 hours at the apple store.

Hi! I am from Cebu, Philippines. I purchased my iPhone 15 Pro from an authorized Apple seller on June 2. Since then, I haven’t used it much, as I still have my iPhone 11 Pro from 2019, which has withstood several falls without a single crack. The new 15 Pro has mostly been in my pocket or sat next to me while I work. However, on June 4, just around two days after buying it, I discovered a huge crack on the back part of the phone near the camera area. I am devastated because I did nothing to cause this. It hasn’t fallen, nor was it handled carelessly. Just like any other cautious customer who just purchased a new device, I always take extra care for sure. Apple claims that the latest models are more durable than the older ones, yet this happened? How can it be this fragile? We can't just frame and display it if it can’t withstand normal use. Apple, please I need assistance with this issue. I am scared and anxious! I spent so much money for this!

This is a user to user only forum, so Apple isn't here and as users no one here can help you. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store and show it to them. Only Apple can determine if it's a manufacturing defect or accidental damage (and accidental damage is more likely).

I don’t agree with this at all. My new iPhone 15 pro dropped from my pocket, with a good case on, just like all my other phones have at some point and it landed face first. The entire back is shattered as well as the glass around the camera lenses and the back never even touched the ground in the fall(front was 100% fine). This would not have happened with my other iPhones. I have been extremely underwhelmed by this phone and regret the purchase.

The back glass is indeed very prone to breaking. I have been using iPhones for over 15 years. I just upgraded to 15pro. I have a sturdy cover. The phone fell from my pants pocket onto the tile floor on itsback. The back glass shattered. My previous phones fell many times from higher points and did not see this problem. this is definitely a design issue. Yes, we should handle these devices carefully but one of the selling point of 15pro was titanium is stronger (it is in their marketing video). With this glass shattering issue it seems to be false advertisement.
