iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

Just got off the phone with a good friend of mine who upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro Max on Friday and the center back glass on the unit cracked this morning. He claims he didn’t drop it, and in general, he’s very careful with his gear, so I tend to believe him.

In talking with him to determine what possibly happened, the durability issue may be a bit specific. It may not be as obvious as dropping the unit or evenly placing a lot of weight on it. Rather, it’s torsion, that is, a twisting or snapping force applied to the edges of the phone, like breaking a cracker into two pieces.

Curiously, a glass screen protector on the front of the phone did not crack. His phone was in a soft silicone case, and I’m wondering if it would’ve fared better in a case a bit more rigid, such as the OtterBox Defender that I have on my iPhone 13 Pro.

Internally, the phone doesn’t seem to be damaged, because he was talking to me on it, the cameras seem to be working, etc. It’s just that the back is now cosmetically ruined, and possibly can allow moisture to seep more easily into the device.

In any event, he’s getting a replacement tomorrow.

That’s what it looks like to me too, which has been the cause for every break reported and how little force it takes.

”Something had to make it break”. Well yeah, as for anything on planet earth unless untouched. A tree branch for example.

Are we suggesting here that you can’t turn when walking with the 15PM inside a fanny pack without worrying you may bump an object and break your iPhone?…

Pictures were provided as asked, and the same response was given downplaying their claims.

I feel it’s a fair assessment that the countless people across the globe aren’t taking the time to fabricate stories, pictures, and/or video. That again, we’d see the same public response on prior models if it was this bad.

We should be encouraging people to share there experiences and feel comfortable doing so, whether good or bad, without making them feel like they’re at fault.

I just logged in with another issue and noticed the advertisement for the "TOUGH" titanium 15. I bought a PRO and it fell off my bed onto carpet and it cracked. I bought a PRO Max a week later and a case since I'm a no case kind of person. I think it broke while putting the case on or taking it off because I have not dropped it. I bought a more square edged case to get the feel of a no case phone and when swapping them out I noticed the new phone is cracked. I have NOT dropped it. Soooo, I decided to google "does the iPhone 15 break easily" and apparently it does. A thin layer of glass around "titanium" has to be the least thought-out design for "tough" known to man. Thumbs down!

I got an iPhone15 in December. I am not hard on phones - I’ve never broken one before and I use a sturdy case and screen protector. Within 2 weeks the back glass *and* two of the cameras were cracked. I did not drop the phone.

I got a replacement and put on a lip around the cameras so they wouldn’t stick up anymore *and* got individual camera screen protectors. One of my camera lenses is shattered again and another is cracked.

This is by far the most fragile phone I’ve ever owned in 17 years of iPhones.
