iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

Superior durability…

No, 14 PM back broke, whilst in a case, from a 5.5 foot fall onto my kitchen floor.

The video doesn’t show how much force he’s putting on the phone. He looks like a relatively in shape dude so it could have been a decent amount of force. Again you said yourself it’s pure speculation.

Possibility of a bad batch of backs, defects do occur in manufacturing. This reminds me of “bendgate…”

the average user with their phone in a quality case, and not abusing their phone isn’t going to have an issue.

My iPhone 15 pro black glass broke in 6 days in my purse. There wasn’t any rough move or fall. I just took the phone out of my purse and the back glass was broken. It didn’t have a case but still….!!! And it was a small purse. It was a bit tight inside so it couldn’t move much.

Glass can be cracked by pressure as well as impact.

Same I was sitting on edge of bed . I pulled my brand new 15 out of the box. The phone was slippery. Fell less than 18” Back glass and camera broke. This was just un boxing getting ready to put into phone case . Yes I had insurance and it cost $279 to get it fixed. I am not alone on this and would like my payment back required to fix it. . . . . I want my money back I paid to get fixed. Too many complaints on this I 15 glass

I have had the iPhone 15 pro for 10 days and had so many issues. Today, the front glass cracked while it had a case on it and dropped from 6 inches on a smooth surface. The glass is flimsy and was already having sensitivity issues. This has been the worst phone yet. Wait until they fix kinks or get the next one. I'm super frustrated with having traded my iPhone 13 pro in for it.

There are many videos showing how fragile the back glass is. I mean, yes, not every phone can survive every drop in the same way. It may depend on the angle or where exactly it hits the place but 15 pro max clearly shatters and loses pieces of glass from its rear glass and you are very likely to end up with a phone with missing glass pieces in the rear, which is not the case with 14 pro max. Apple must take into account user feedback and so something about this. In countries like Turkey where iPhone is really really expensive, it is a complete turn off. IPhone 15 pro Max's base model, for example, costs as much as 8 months of my rent here.

Theres good things about the i phone 15 and bad things about it too. Main bad thing is that yes they are so unbelievably fragile. I got the 15 plus and i got a case and a screen protector i dropped it once and the whole back is shattered. When i had my 12 pro max the amount of times i dropped it with and with out a case and it never broke is crazy to me.

I had iPhone 14 Pro Max last year and i had dropped the phone by accident may be 30-40 times but didn’t happen anything,

but my iPhone 15 Pro Max got broken at it’s first accidental drop yesterday

to be noted: I don’t use cover on my phones I didn’t use any cover in my 14 Pro Max but it handles that much drops from various height in various surfaces

Yup. I was literally sick when I noticed the back of my 15 pro max shattered with the glass around the back camera lense as well. I didn’t even take it out of the box until I had a 56 dollar otter box case on it. I had my iPhone 11 for years without even a scratch on it. I’ve had this model for less than 4 months and it’s destroyed like some cheap POS. Over a thousand dollars and it breaks easily. They made it sound like it was more durable than previous models. I haven’t taken the case off of it since it happened bc I am afraid to make it even worse. They need to figure this out and make it right for their customers.
