iPhone 15 Pro Max Back Glass Durability

Hello, I’m interested in purchasing an iPhone 15 pro max, I have seen online that this model breaks very easily (back glass breaks with minimal pressure- JerryRigsEverything video). Has anyone else experienced this?

I disagree.

In his videos, he compared it to the iPhone 14, same tests. Significant difference in durability. In fact, the 14 did not break and with more pressure.

Yes, it was deliberately destroyed, 1 test at a time… I’m unaware how else you’d test durability. However, the first test was the back glass. The rest of the tests followed, and most praised.

A LOT of other videos have emerged as well. Popular Mac forums have published articles too. Same observations, and more with the camera falling off after a decent fall. Never in the history of iPhones has this happened, under extreme falls (Off Rooftops).

Pure speculation; I believe it’s a design flaw related to the back glass now being removable, and it will probably be fixed on the iPhone 16.

OP:

If you still get the 15… you’ll probably like it. But take extra precautions. Like a lanyard 😂.

My opinion, find an iPhone 14. It will cost less, performance comparisons are negligible (see tests online), and it has superior durability.

I guess it depends on phone by phone... some seem more fragile than others. I bought my i15pm 3 days ago, been carrying it in my pocket with my previous phone (i11pm) and today when i took it nice spiderweb cracks at the bottom of the camera module. I discussed with other people, ymmv, but definitely very disappointed. Or there is a design weakness there just below the rings of the cameras, i am not sure... and 300,000KRW to replace it is a big scam, unbelievable.

ive had the same exact issue with my iPhone 15 pro .. I wasn't using a cover for it to be fair but I dropped it from a short chair and have a very similar crack as yours .. they should not advertise these phones ' never break' now since its already broken am 100% not gonna put a cover on it .. I do have a screen protector on my phone tho .. hopefully that it stronger than the back on the phone . it feels bad man

He should not have been able to utterly destroy the device with moderate pressure from his thumbs. That didn’t happen on the 14, 13, 12… If it can break that easily, it can surely break in your pocket or bag. The phone has to be carried somewhere, it’s a phone, not a laptop. It should be able to withstand normal pressures. Never mind that a piece of dust seems capable of scratching the titanium casing significantly. That’s more delicate than is reasonable and not what should be acceptable for the top of the line phone that’s over $1,000.

This may be the most severely flawed iPhone yet. Which is a shame because outside of durability it looks and feels beautiful and has really great upgrades. But all of that means nothing if it can scratch and break just by putting it in your pocket which is what anyone does with a phone. My 12 pro was dropped and beat up more than I care to remember and it was indestructible. It’s like the 15 pro is made out of papier-mâché or something.

Yeah I had thought the same thing. I had the 11 since launch and switched to the 15 pro max the day it launched.

never managed to break the glass on the 11, and I was much more careless as a young adult.

and yet, I have already managed to destroy the black glass ont he 15 pro max. Honestly very depressing, it dropped maybe 5 feet onto wood flooring. Rip

I had the same issue today. So my iPhone fell out of my pocket, and mind you it’s like a feet or so and the back just shattered. And I BOUGHT THIS PHONE A MONTH AGO, 12/15/23. And it’s 200 to fix the thing. I’m so mad right now. Never had a problem until I switched to the 15. I’m disappointed

I had one car accident in my 2009 Honda Fit. I have had none in my 2013 model. Does that mean my 2013 is more durable? Or, does it mean I've been lucky enough not to have anyone back into me in the last 10 years?
