Active calorie count on Apple Watch Golf workout still way off what it used to be - about 1/2 of all previous versions. Playing 18 used to be about 1400 active cals burned...now it's about 650. Updated to latest iOS (17.1) and watchOS (10.1) as well -
Know the algorithms can change but this is quite a big one
Anyone else seeing this?

I’m having this issue as well. Spent over 4 hours golfing today and my watch only counted the 4+ hour recorded workout as 21 exercise minutes. I’ve confirmed my watch is calibrated, location settings are on for all the relevant apps, and I’m on iOS 17.1 and my Apple Watch is OS 10.1.
I always thought the calories burned were high when I rode a cart, but I reasonable when walk and carry my bag. Now I am getting about the same calories per mile walking as when I walk the dog. I also get almost no exercise minutes. Hope apple sorts this out. I am prettty fit, resting heart around 50, rarely over 70 when I play golf. I suspect Apple only uses heart rate to determine active calories.
How is it fixed? Still not recording. I golfed 14 holes in 2:20 walking. That’s fast! 14 exercise minutes.
I played golf the day after I made the change suggested by Apple support. It did not fix the issue. I’m wondering if the new golf software is for the new Apple Watch. I will take suggestions from this thread and use outdoor walk till it is addressed.
As of November 5th still having the same issue. I have the latest updates and all settings are correct. Apple needs to correct this obvious bug. My assumption is that few of their programmers play golf. ;-)
Golf hasn’t worked on my watch since the last update. Today I golfed 18’holes and walked. The watch gave me three miles and 6 exercise minutes.
it irritates me that Apple hasn’t addressed this problem yet gives me challenges that are based on my historical achievements.
The watch doesn’t have much value if the algorithms fail.
No response from Apple. This seems to be ignored.
Same here. I finished 18 holes yesterday and got a whopping 12 minutes of exercise time completed and only 250 calories. This is insane as I walked in harsh 100 degree temps with significant elevations for just over 4 hours! This needs to be fixed asap or I’m finding another watch!
Still having an issue golf not recording as a workout. Very disappointing
My husband is so irritated at the change he might stop using his Apple Watch
Yes I have the same problem since updating last week. I figure it has to be some bug in the new software update.
I the meantime until gets fixed I use Functional training to get my workout time (of 4hr. & 30 min) and the calories are about half of my rounds of golf prior to this problem (used to get about 1150 calories for a 4.5 hr round). And now I get 8 minutes of activity time (for a 4.5 hour round) and 380 calories.
I too am disappointed at the golf portion of the apple fitness app. I golfed 4 hours and hit over 100 ball and got 20 minutes of exercise credit. That is just wrong. Apple fix this!
@dd2ski2b I just finished to play the 18 holes, and unfortunately the issue is not solved. I played for more that 5 hours and mark only 29 minutes, the active calories is around 600Kcal and for me playing 18 holes used to be more than 1500.
So, the issue is not solved yet!!!!
I am having this problem on my new Apple Watch Series 9
