Cannot connect LG Monitor to Macbook Pro

Hi, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an LG monitor 27UD88 and a Macbook Pro (13inch M1 2020). My operating system is Ventura 13.5

I'm trying to connect them with a HDMI to USB-C cable.

This has worked in the past for me so not sure what is happening now.

When I connect the monitor to the laptop, my laptop screen 'freezes' and the menu bar along the top is greyed out, I can't do anything. The monitor just says 'no signal entering power saving mode'. As soon as I disconnect the cable, I can use my laptop again.

When I go into System Preference > Display, I don't see any options for external monitors etc. I've attached a screenshot below. I've seen online that I should hit option while hovering over night shift and this will reveal 'detect display'. This does work but I can't click on detect displays. And obviously I can't do this at all when connected to the monitor as my laptop is greyed out.

I've also connected my monitor and shut my laptop lid but that did nothing either.

Any suggestions! Thanks in advance
