Always On wallpaper and clock change size in ios17

When my iPhone 15pro goes into Always On mode, the wallpaper and clock get smaller. How do I stop this from happening?

i thought it could be the perspective zoom, but there seems to be no way to turn this of in ios17. Is there something else that’s causing the change in size between my lockscreen and Always On? Thanks!

Hi Circleof05ths,

Is your iPhone up to date? The current iOS version is 17.0.2. You can see which iOS version your iPhone is on by going to Settings > General > About. If yours isn't on that version, see if updating your iPhone corrects the issue: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If not, see if changing the wallpaper of your Lock Screen helps: Change the wallpaper on your iPhone - Apple Support

If the wallpaper and clock still changes size, please contact Apple Support. They'll be in the best position to investigate this issue together with you: Get Support

All the best.

Yes, the clock and wallpaper only changes size when AOD is on. When I turn AOD off, it’s a black screen, so there’s nothing changing sizing. Same thing happens on a friend’s 15pro.

I did a search in the web and found a bunch of posts on various sites talking about this issue. The solution that worked for previous ios versions was to turn off perspective zoom, but there doesn’t seem to be that option any more in ios17.

Hi,

Yes, it’s updated to the latest IOS. It’s happening on multiple iPhones, so I think it’s how the IOS works. As mentioned in my previous posts, this was problem in earlier IOS, but was fixed by turning off perspective zoom. However, that option has been removed.

I’m also one of the unlucky ones that is having the too hot and battery drain issues as well. If I talk on the phone, it gets hot and for an hour conversation, I lost about 30-40% of my battery. The only thing that comes up as using the battery is the home screen. Tried swap my black and white image to a default image. Still drains. Went to a Genius Bar, and just got, “Maybe try a restore and set the phone up as a new phone and reload in all your apps.” Not helpful.

Hello Circleof05ths,

Thanks for that info. Yes, since it's across multiple devices, leave feedback.

Apple might make changes in the upcoming iOS updates: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Your iPhone may heat up and lose battery in long calls too. It will heat up more if you put it on the charger while on the call too. Try saving power in other areas. Check that you are updated, then wait 72 hours for background functions to complete, and test again.

Your iPhone battery is designed to retain 80% max capacity at 500 charge cycles. Meaning, if an issue is found later, the warranty would cover it as mentioned here: https://s.apple.com/dm3l9J0G8w

“A normal battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles when operating under normal conditions. The one-year warranty includes service coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers battery service for a charge.”

Battery percentage and charge cycles are both a direct result of use and charging, please check your settings, as some simple changes can really help extend the life of your battery. This same article should help: https://s.apple.com/dH1R1T4z3w

It may also be beneficial to disable Background App Refresh for the apps that you do not normally use. This article talks about Background App refresh: https://s.apple.com/dH8h5u3i4b

Also, check if your model is capable of this, as it greatly reduces the battery life with active listening. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Sound Recognition, then turn off Sound Recognition if it is on.  This feature uses a lot of battery that was not consistent with other usage. Please check for Sound Recognition feature. Once turned off, battery usage should go back to expected use.

Lastly, check Settings > Battery > Last 24 hours tab > and check Screen On / Screen Off and the top 6 or 8 apps in that list. Does it look like any apps are running more or using more power than you expect to be used? For example, you checked your Mail for 30 minutes in the last 24 hours, but the app has been running for 8 hours? https://s.apple.com/dw6n7U1EK8

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, but I already had background apps refresh and sound recognition off. It’s literarily the Home & Lock Screen that is somehow using up 35-49% of my battery. I have a simple black and white image as my wallpaper. I tried turning off Always On and Standby, did nothing. I never put my phone on charging when on a call.

This is a brand new iPhone 15pro with the latest IOS. So, I have no idea why my old iPhone 11pro was working better with the same apps and settings.
