I just upgraded to Mac Sonoma 14 and now Chrome won't work.
It opens to a blank page. No bookmarks bar, no content and acts like there are spaces where I can click but nothing is visible.

Chrome has been unusable for me for about a week. Did a computer restart, which also included updating Chrome on Sonoma. Now I can do almost nothing before Chrome crashes (wheel of death). I've tried uninstall and reinstall, cleared all of the related files in the library, tried running the Chrome Beta, tried with new profiles. To me it looks like it is some kind of permissions issue i.e. as soon at Chrome tries to execute something, it hard crashes. So I can browse some websites without an issue but as soon as I try to login to Salesforce for example, it hard crashes. I'm now running Safari but Salesforce doesn't support Safari on many screens due to Safari privacy settings that can't be changed and then Chrome extensions not available on other browsers. Hate being so dependent on one browser and then is not working. Outside of a complete reinstall of my MacBook Pro M1 (which I'm not going to do) I don't know the answer.
Chrome browser isn't working just updated to sonoma October 02 2023. I can't amke calls with microsoft teams application only messages. Even when I try to make calls from the browser it doesn't work. I have uninstalled the applications numerous times I am now using firefox and the language keep changing. Safari is ok but still can't use teams on it and it's devtools aint as great as chrome or firefox. I can't even do a rollback so I can work. Hoping this gets fixed soon. This post isnt mean't to be helpful.
When Steve was around, “it just works” seemed to be a priority. My experience was in alignment with that expression. I’m very happy Chrome is working for you.
To follow up- I used my apartment’s club room WiFi and Chrome was working fine. Seems like certain routers no longer work on Sonoma for a reason I don’t know.
This appears to be a larger issue with using a logitech mouse. Turn off the mouse and use the trackpad or maybe a Magic Mouse. See Strange mouse click issue after updating … - Apple Community
I turned off my mouse and used my track pad and things seem to work.
I have uninstalled are reinstalled multiple times.
Issues:
Downloaded via Safari, then installed it, now all works
Thanks for this. Sort this out, Apple! I would discourage anyone from "upgrading" to Sonoma.
Had the same issue since I upgraded to Sonoma.
Noticed at some locations Chrome worked fine, but at home it did not, so I figured it was something to do with the network rather than some configuration.
Network with WPA Chrome works fine. but when using the default router which uses WPA2 at home it didn't, so just a change in this setting seemed to work for me.
How is this the best anwser? If anyone is coming to this forum without reinstalling Chrome first, there's something wrong with them.
Beyond the obvious, how else can this be fixed without backing up the computer?
I finally got the internet to work properly on my Mac. Previously the following apps weren’t connecting to the internet: Chrome, Spotify, Find My.
What oddly worked was to reboot to safe mode, then restart again. Not sure why this worked, but it’s easy to give it a try.
I got the same issue when upgrading to Mac Sonoma 14. I've tried several suggestions but none of them works. What works best for me is installing Firefox or changing to Safari. That's pretty annoying but maybe a good move to prevent the monopoly game of Chrome.
After struggling with this problem for days, I followed the advice here and downloaded a fresh copy of Chrome without deleting the old version. It seems to be working well and has all my bookmarks etc. intact.
My question now is, can I delete the old version or will I lose all those bookmarks? Apologies if this is a stupid or obvious question ... this isn't my area of expertise.
I have done that, and it has not worked. I downloaded over current copy - nope.....downloaded an additional copy....nope....deleted my old version, downloaded new copy....nope.....this is so aggravating
I had to reinstall the OS to get back to the mac Ventura OS after I installed Sonoma. Sonoma is a disaster if you have to use Chrome. I have to use Chrome for my job. This is an absolute nightmare. I am absolutely SHOCKED that Apple has not considered this for their end-users.
If this is a way to force us to use Safari, this is a BAD way for customer relations. My company will force me to switch to a PC.
The same thing happened to me after upgrading from Ventura to Sonoma. I had to uninstall Chrome, delete the library cache, and then clear the downloads. Once I did that and restarted my MacBook, I was able to use Chrome normally.
This article from MacObserver was very helpful: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/chrome-not-working-sonoma/
I downloaded the new Google Chrome in Firefox. Did the update there and then went into wifi settings (details) click TCP, changed it to link-local only. Things are back up and running. Total time 4min ish.
