I just upgraded to Mac Sonoma 14 and now Chrome won't work.
It opens to a blank page. No bookmarks bar, no content and acts like there are spaces where I can click but nothing is visible.

I was shocked after installing Sonoma 14 when my Chrome browser was no longer functioning. Glad I had another computer that did NOT have Sonoma so could learn others had the same problem. I did download Chrome again using my Safari browser and successfully installed it., All my bookmarks, etc were restored. Deleted the earlier version of Chrome. Bottom line: Apple messed up not having figured this out BEFORE they launched Sonoma.
God knows how many customers they screwed up, not all of which will easily find the solution. I may wait a week or 2 before I install any future mac updates.
Sonoma does NOT work with Chrome nor Firefox.
I spent seven hours deleted Sonoma and going back to Ventura. I had to re-install the entire operating System.
THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH SONOMA!!!
Honestly, I don't think the Apple programmers read these threads anymore.
They are so afraid of AI, that they are frantic with new upgrades and getting sloppy. They IGNORING THEIR EXISTING, LONG-TIME, DEDICATED USERS.
Ugh! What happened to google??? Since buying my IMac back in 2013, I never upgraded the OS X since I was warned that bad things happens if you do. Maybe that's why I still can use google... on some things. But lately, google have been blocking websites and preventing me from logging into my Apple account. When I search on my PC - which don't have any problem with google - to find a solution, they all claimed that certain Google's certifications expired. But wait, it get better. Once the so-called certificate(s) expired, you have 30 days to renew it. How to do that is beyond me. And if you don't renew the certificate within 30 days, then forget it. But you can create a new one. When you do, your iOS users must unregister and reregister in the Google Device Policy app to sync Google Workspace data.
There are multiple steps that need to be taken to replace the expired certificates with a new one that google will provide. But I don't have the time to try this, I'll need someone who has Apple computer expertise.
Too bad this is the way things are between Apple & Google. Windows PC never have this problem, but they have issue with viruses, Apple don't have virus issue, which is why they are good in that regard.
So I guess I'll just keep using Google on my IMac until the last certificate expired, then I'm gonna have to find a geek to see if he or she can fix it.
I upgraded to Sonoma, what a mistake.
I can’t download files from my chrome, google drive to my Mac. They just disappear. In fact, I can’t download anything to my desktop. I can’t even download anything to my downloads folder. Using Chrome.
They are there, but you can’t see them on the desktop.
Also, I am a video editor, and Davinci Resolve keeps crashing. Upgrading to Sonoma was a mistake.
Feb. 5 2024-- Chrome simply is not working after Genius Bar updated my Mac to Sonoma. This is a huge issue for Google and Apple and it feels like big tech at its worst. Has anyone else found a work around? I'd love for all tech to just get along. Imagine consideration for their customers and putting customers first. Don't we pay enough for Google workspace, Apple hardware and Microsoft et al ?!!
Same problem. I will not dare upgrade to Sonoma again until Apple calls me personally and tells me all is well with its compatibility with Chrome. It was so bad, I had to re-install the OS, and go back to Ventura.
Took me seven (7) hours to downgrade.
Sonoma seems to be sandbagging my macbook, It causes it to power off when ever i closed the lid... i fixed that in energy saving settings. But now every time it "sleeps" (the lid is closed) chrome wont come back with my tabs and i need to force quite chrome and reopen it and sign in again. This all takes like a minute in a half, but doing that 2-5 times a day sucks.
Anyone have any luck fixing this issue? I JUST bought a new Mac and it upgraded to Sonoma 14.1.1. It won't even let me download the chrome app because it says "my region is currently incompatible" with the chrome app. I live in the United States and I have this app on literally all my other devices, so my region is definitely compatible.
I had the same problem.
But after a while it went away.
At first, I had to hit Shift- . (period).
That seemed to work for seeing files downloaded using Chrome.
Also, do a reboot and hold down the R or the S key, to start in igognito mode. That seems to help.
But do your research, I can 't remember whether it was the R or the S key.
Hope that helps!
I just bought a new MacBook Air, updated the OS to Sonoma and it's been worse than my old Macbook 2017
I need to use google chrome to teach classe through a platform that runs on chrome and now I've been performing poorly in my classes due to that!
it's insane.
I wish I had seen this before updtading the system.
I really don't know what to do to fix this.
I did and it worked. Thanks.
I reinstalled chrome. I reinstalled Davinci Resolve. Nothing is working. Upgrading to Sonoma was an absolute mistake. I am on my eight hour of trying to reinstall back to Ventura operating system.
Same
I did this twice but after a day or so, the same issue comes back.
How? With Sonoma Finder just links to the App Store
How did you download it? My issue is downloads don't actually download so it would be impossible for me to install it.
I am however running the latest update of chrome and it didn't change a thing.
