Problems with Apple Watch after updating to watchOS 10.0.1

Since updating, I've lost a bundle of functions such as waterproofing, silence, 'where is my phone', wifi on/off, battery charge. I've chatted with Apple who had no answers and the chat after an hour of going in circles dropped out. I am very unhappy with this update, it has complicated my watch and I can't revert.

has anyone else had this problem? I use to be able to click on the watchface, swipe down and there they all were. Now I just get the weather (which I already get on the face, so it's not exactly a great update but an annoying duplication.)

And I can't waterproof my watch anymore.

Any solutions? Anyone?

I'm having MAJOR issues with my Apple Watch Series 4 since updating to 10.0.1.

The worst issue I have is that the battery drains to nothing within a matter of hours. Prior to the update I NEVER HAD BATTERY ISSUES. Since the update to watchOS 10 there are nights where I go to bed with 100% power and I wake up 6-7 hours later with it either totally DEAD or dead enough where it will only show the time when pressing a button. So my sleep doesn't get logged. But sometimes under the exact same circumstances I wake up with it at 40%.

There are mornings when I leave my place and it's at 100%, and within 5 hours it's telling me it's down to 10%. Then there are rare times when it will get me 8-10 hours.

There is NOTHING enabled on my watch anymore due to these problems. I keep it on airplane mode ALWAYS. Every time I put it on the charger I put it into low power mode. I have cellular disabled and WIFI off. The volume is turned all the way down. The screen brightness is turned all the way down. And yet it KEEPS only lasting a few hours ever since this update!!!

The other MAJOR problem I am now having is the watch freezes half the time! It randomly wont respond to me touching the screen or side buttons. Even though it's ALWAYS next to my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I'd say at least 75% of the time I hold down the crown side button for a second so SIRI is listening, I then give it a voice command to remind me of something or whatever, it will show what I said on the screen, and then tell me SOMETHING IS WRONG AND IT DOESNT UNDERSTAND!

I cannot describe how FRUSTRATING all this is!!!

Back when the watch was new it was $800-$900. Plus I am paying $15/month for cellular service on it which I cannot even enable because of the new battery problem.

So am I being forced to buy a new watch now??

Because Apple won't let me downgrade the software back to when everything worked, now I am having to buy a new watch?? I think this is really MESSED UP.

Is anyone else having the same issues with their watch?

The latest update to the Apple Watch made the Watch less useful to me. Before the update, I could scroll up and turn off The screen or the sound. Before the update, I could scroll up and put my phone on low energy mode. Now I cannot figure out how to do any of that because now when I scroll up, I get useless information.

Control Center moved to the flat oval side button (see picture)

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up the Emergency services display.

All the things you used to access by swiping up, are still there via the flat oval side button.

Feel free to tell Apple what you would like to see in a future watchOS version via

Quick press and release the flat oval side button will bring up the Control Center, that has the Water Drop icon, the iPhone Ping icon, the battery charge information, Theater mode, Alarm disable, etc... (see picture)

hUse Control Center on Apple Watch - Apple Support

DO NOT hold the button, as that will bring up Emergency Services display.

Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed

will allow you to adjust the timing for the press and release so it can be done reliably every time for you. This option is also very useful for Apple Pay's double press and release timing. I like Slow, and my Wife likes the Slowest setting.

DO NOT hold the flat oval button, as that is what brings up Emergency services and the power off icon.

A quick press and release of the flat oval side button brings up Control Center

If you the timing of the press and release to fast, which happens to me, then adjust the following setting:

Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed

“Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The "Side Button Click Speed" is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second timing of needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting.

NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.

I have the same issues. Why was the feature to swipe on the watch between watch faces removed? Why is it now harder to access controls? Can the old features please be reinstated?

The previous Control Center swipe-up has moved to a quick press and release of the flat oval side button

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up Emergency services and the power off icon.

Control Center should then show you the iPhone ping icon (find my iPhone), Battery percentage, Flashlight, Water Lock, Airplane mode, Alarm silence, Theater mode, and all the other Control Center services.

An alternate way to get some of the Control Center services is:

"Hey Siri, find my iPhone"

"Hey Siri, Flashlight"

"Hey Siri, Battery"

"Hey Siri, Airplane mode"

Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing:

Not to mention under my 3rd watch under warranty too - really over Apple at the moment.

watchOS 10.2 re-enables left/right watch face swiping

•Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.

•Scroll down and choose “Clock”.

•Toggle on the “Swipe to Switch Face” setting.

Making an emergency call is not something that is easy to do by accident. And how you do it hasn't changed with watchOS 10. What was happening that you thought you were going to make such a call?

Adding complications hasn't changed at all.

Also not a fan of the new way to access the control center.

So much frustration with this upgrade or perhaps “downgrade.”

Downgrade is not really on option, and it would be short lived, as eventually watchOS 9 would no longer be able to pair with newer iPhones and iPhone iOS versions.

OMG!!!!! No, you can't downgrade the device. You cannot go back to the way it was before. You can, however, take a deep breath, read this thread and others which explain the changes. It's hard to learn new things when you're upset but you can get used to the changes.

Tap the Digital Crown twice: Recent apps

Tap the side button: Control Center

For the future, full number updates (e.g. watchOS 9 to watchOS 10) always bring lots of changes. I suggest that next year, you wait and read the forums before updating your watch (or iPhone or Mac).

They also dont realize what a drain on the battery this new display is, so in my opinion it is, in fact, a mistake.

If the Always On Display is a problem for you, you do, in fact, have the option to turn it if. It doesn't seem to have a significant effect on my battery which genrally lasts just over 24 hours. And that's with an old-ish battery.

After reading these comments I’m just glad I didn’t purchase my wife a new Apple Watch for Christmas. Her current watch has become useless with the latest update. After reading through these comments it appears Apple is causing a lot of undue anxieties among its loyal long time users. I’m re-thinking the Apple Watch now. I don’t need the anxiety due to a heart condition. I don’t want to own a device to monitor my heart if it’s going to do more harm than good. I’ll be curious how Apple will handle this debacle. If Apple learns to listen to its users concerns I will entertain the idea of owning an Apple Watch. We’ll see how well Apple adapts to the vast number of complaints their latest update has caused. I know it’s caused a lot of unnecessary strife in our home.
