Problems with Apple Watch after updating to watchOS 10.0.1

Since updating, I've lost a bundle of functions such as waterproofing, silence, 'where is my phone', wifi on/off, battery charge. I've chatted with Apple who had no answers and the chat after an hour of going in circles dropped out. I am very unhappy with this update, it has complicated my watch and I can't revert.

has anyone else had this problem? I use to be able to click on the watchface, swipe down and there they all were. Now I just get the weather (which I already get on the face, so it's not exactly a great update but an annoying duplication.)

And I can't waterproof my watch anymore.

Any solutions? Anyone?

I'm having MAJOR issues with my Apple Watch Series 4 since updating to 10.0.1.

The worst issue I have is that the battery drains to nothing within a matter of hours. Prior to the update I NEVER HAD BATTERY ISSUES. Since the update to watchOS 10 there are nights where I go to bed with 100% power and I wake up 6-7 hours later with it either totally DEAD or dead enough where it will only show the time when pressing a button. So my sleep doesn't get logged. But sometimes under the exact same circumstances I wake up with it at 40%.

There are mornings when I leave my place and it's at 100%, and within 5 hours it's telling me it's down to 10%. Then there are rare times when it will get me 8-10 hours.

There is NOTHING enabled on my watch anymore due to these problems. I keep it on airplane mode ALWAYS. Every time I put it on the charger I put it into low power mode. I have cellular disabled and WIFI off. The volume is turned all the way down. The screen brightness is turned all the way down. And yet it KEEPS only lasting a few hours ever since this update!!!

The other MAJOR problem I am now having is the watch freezes half the time! It randomly wont respond to me touching the screen or side buttons. Even though it's ALWAYS next to my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I'd say at least 75% of the time I hold down the crown side button for a second so SIRI is listening, I then give it a voice command to remind me of something or whatever, it will show what I said on the screen, and then tell me SOMETHING IS WRONG AND IT DOESNT UNDERSTAND!

I cannot describe how FRUSTRATING all this is!!!

Back when the watch was new it was $800-$900. Plus I am paying $15/month for cellular service on it which I cannot even enable because of the new battery problem.

So am I being forced to buy a new watch now??

Because Apple won't let me downgrade the software back to when everything worked, now I am having to buy a new watch?? I think this is really MESSED UP.

Is anyone else having the same issues with their watch?

Use Control Center on Apple Watch explains "Control Center gives you an easy way to check your battery, silence your watch, choose a Focus, turn your Apple Watch into a flashlight, put your Apple Watch in Airplane Mode, turn on theater mode, and more."

Open or close Control Center

  • Open Control Center: Press the side button once.
  • Close Control Center: With Control Center open, turn your wrist away from you or press the side button again.

Its the same button as for an emergency 911. What brain thought of that?

One is a momentary press, and one is a long press.

Most likely based on a screen tap vs a tap & hold. Or putting your car high beams on vs flashing your high beams to signal an on coming driver there is something ahead of them they should be careful about.

Getting more functionality out of a limited number of input controls.

Updated my watch 2 days ago. And I WANT THE OLD watch face BACK. I’ve lost EASY access to silent mode/ battery life… and where is THEATRE MODE??!? Please give me old version back!

Momentarily press and release the flat Oval side button.

DO NOT push the round rotating Digital Crown.

DO NOT hold the flat Oval side button for an extended period of time.

DO NOT double-click the flat Oval side button.

Why?
Apart from having to press the button rather than swiping up.. I can’t swipe left or right for anything, when I used to be able to move between my clock faces..
I now have blocks in the resting mode rather than the date in the complications. My Paces are blocked out until I touch them in complications.
Please tell me what are the benefits from this “upgrade “????

We speculate the prior to watchOS 10, Apple support was getting lots of complaints from inexperienced users that accidentally swiped and got stuck with a watch face they did not want.

Again total speculation.

I suspect that it is planned obsolescence.

These are User Interface changes, that work the same across all the Apple Watches old or new that are capable of running watchOS 10.

Your idea of "planned obsolescence" would imply it is the customer's that Apple is Obsoleting, and just wants new customers, and none of the existing customers.

I think I would rather go with IdrisSeabright's "Alien Interference" and get my tinfoil hat out 🥳

I agree the update has made my life miserable by changing the way to ping your phone from the Apple Watch. Pressing the side button typically triggers to the emergency or turn off phone. Since I pay my bill, I would think that I could have my things set up the way I want them instead of updates deciding for me. I am very disgusted with Apple updates if possible, I will never update again.

“Hey Siri, Find my iPhone” is even easier.

Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing:

Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed

“Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The “Side Button Click Speed” is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second timing of needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting.

NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.

I have an Apple Watch series 8, updated it last night while it was on the charger and woke up this morning with it at 35% and drained within an hour of having it on. Before the update that would have lasted at least until I got home. It got very hot also, I’m super upset about it and hopefully they fix it soon or I’ll send it back and replace it.
