Safari problems since Sonoma upgrade

Safari is unusable after waking since the Sonoma upgrade. As soon as I click on the browser the Beachball appears, mostly not spinning. This persists for a while then the normal Cursor appears. So I click again and the beachball appears again. Sometimes it settles down and sometimes I have to right click the Dock icon, which reads "Application not responding" and I have to Force Quit.

Context as follows: 2 tabs on YouTube open when the machine's lid is closed. It's returning these YouTube tabs to their proper state that seems to cause the issues. This has not happened on any previous version of macOS.

MBPro M1

Safari has 1Blocker and Adblock installed - this also hasn't been a problem before.

Safari is a disaster since Sonoma. Writing this with Firefox - no problems. I have no added extensions or ad blockers on Safari. Been a Mac user for thirty-five years. Do not recall ever having an issue with a system upgrade. I am using a M1 MacBook Pro.

Hello daveh909,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with Safari. Next, what we would recommend, is testing this issue in another user account. What we need to do, is log out of your current user. Log back in under another Standard or Administrator account and see if the same issue occurs there. This way we can tell if it is an issue with your user account, or if it is system wide: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

THANK YOU for confirming that LA Court Connect ruined your computer too, EDB007! I thought I was going crazy.

Trying to enter an appearance, and I've ruined my computer. Any solution?! About to have to wipe it.

Your post is making me feel better. At least I know what the problem is!

It broke my 14.0 install. I tried upgrading to 14.1, but it didn't fix it.

Yes, of course. The Problem is: I had 2 folders ~/Library/Containers/Safari. I renamed one to "Safari_Alt". But now this name was changed back by Safari. Looking at the director now, it shows:

What the **** is this....

Looking into the folders, content is rather similar. And obviously more then 0ne folder ist actually used!

I'm sure, this is definitively a bug made by apple!
