iPhone Keyboard Lag after iOS 17 Update

I disabled the predictions and reset the keyboard dictionary and it solved the issue. Hope it helps.

Turning off „Check Spelling“ actually solved it for me. Now it feels really responsive and fast. No noticeable delay. Thank you so much! Makes the experience so much better. I hope it solved the problem for all of you?

Thank you for this comment, I've had 3 languages (Spanish, English, and Russian) and I decided to try what you have said, to disable one of them (in this case English, because I can perfectly write in English using Spanish). The laggy thing seems to have disappeared. I only had a little of lag in the second I started to write in somewhere, it wasn't a really big deal but why to have it when I can to not have it, right?

I’m typing fast and this also happens to me on iPhone 13 Pro after the ios 17 update.

After deactivating “Check Spelling” and “Predictive text” it’s still persistent.

Only after disabling “Auto-Correction” the issue is gone BUT I want these features else I need to think switching to Android seriously.

I have this issue on an iPhone 12 mini. I followed someone's recommendation to turn off secondary keyboards (Vietnamese in my case) and it resolved the lag when typing in English. This really sucks for bilingual people who need to be able to switch between languages on the fly. Apple, please fix this.

Can confirm disabling Swipe Keyboard fixed the issue. So if you’ve tried turning off predictive and auto-correct. Throw that back on and leave off swipe (does anyone use that anyway—just seemed like adding an old Android feature that no one asked for)

I'm on iOS 17.2.1 and using an iPhone SE and it seems like the texting latency is only getting worse. I've given up and have just disabled all of the auto-correct features because they are actively not helpful at this point and degrade the core texting capability so bad that you can't even text? And these "smart" features actively punish proficient, power users who type fast? Like some other user posted, it's even worse if you speak and type in more than one language. I really wonder what auto-correct accuracy rates overall really looks like these days among all users, but for me it gets it wrong more often than it gets it right. So no thanks.

As I was saying a week ago, got a chance for using the Google Keyboard for the past week. Use it !!! It will take away your headaches caused by the iOS keyboard.

Still having this issue on iOS 17.5.1 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, disabling the secondary english keyboard fixes it in my case but I'd like to keep it as I need to type some english sentences sometimes.

this worked for me I disabled the Spanish keyboard I had. And now I have no lag.

for me it was fixed when disabling all the dictation functions in the settings app.

(iPhone 15 Pro - iOS 17.0.3)

edit: seems to be only on larger text messages after disabling.

I just switched to gboard and it is super fast also with 2 languages

“Reduce Transparency” if enabled will make the keyboard laggy and very annoying. It happened on my IPM 15P. It took me a while to figure out.

Just disable the Reduce Transparency

I fixed my issue by removing the screen protection film. It seems that it somehow created "interference" with the touch system. After removing it, I had no more issues.

I just upgraded from iPhone 11 to iPhone 15 pro max, my phone had the keyboard lag issue and after transferring to new phone the lag was gone for the first few hours. Once it came back I went to go look for a solution (not sure why I haven’t before now) and thanks to this forum I have found my solution at least, I went to keyboard settings and deleted all keyboards but the default even removed the emoji keyboard and then I added it back and that seems to have fixed my typing lag issues for now at least.
