iPhone Keyboard Lag after iOS 17 Update

Hi!

After the iOS 17 update the keyboard typing experience is very unpleasant. I noticed the autocorrect feature is improved and available in many languages, but the keyboard has a major lag. After a sentence or two, the keys are not popping up, the prediction freezes and the text doesn't show up, even though I'm still typing. Few seconds later all the words I've been typing started to appear very fast and catch up again with my writing. I have already cleared the keyboard cache and restart the phone several times. iOS is up to date (17.0.2).

This is only one thing that's worst, there are many other aspect about the UI, but the keyboard one is the most upsetting.

I'm on iOS 17.1.2 and the issue persists

I've already tried reseting the keyboard dictionary, removing my secondary keyboard and since that didn't work, I even re installed IOS

The only thing that fixes the issue, as other persons have pointed out, is disabling predictive text and autocorrection

For me, autocorrection and predictive text is indispensable, so I installed google keyboard. It looks awful, but the typing experience is so much better

It is sad that a third party keyboard does it better than the apple one

I'm having this issue on an iphone 14 pro max running IOS 17.1.2 and the issue has been present since the first iOS 17 update

I’ve been having a lot more than lag issues with iPhone 13 max pro and iPhone 12’s keyboard. Typing has become consistently worse in regards to auto correct not correcting words or not accepting the correct spelling of a word, wrong keys being hit repeatedly, its not allowing me to delete a letter or words without hitting backspace 10-15 times, faulty cursor selection and placement, randomly started dropping the cursor places or to the bottom of the page while typing to edit text or like now while trying to scroll thru to edit anywhere I touch it all of a sudden wants to highlight words instead of placing the cursor wants jump to, at times it wont fit words properly onto the page with more than enough space for them to fit leaving huge spaces.

its not the memory or battery and resetting the device doesn’t do anything. I don’t believe its the devices themselves either due to it consistently becoming worse every update and the sheer number of complaint about the issues over a period of time. it seems the problem is with iOS and my screen has also been freezing on both devices with keyboard use beyond lag .

This iPhone 13 max pro is the last apple devices that I will ever purchase for myself or family again. It’s beyond frustrating to the point i’m tempted to smash the **** thing multiple times a day and switching back to an android. It’s pretty bad when you want to smash a phone due to constant frustration with it. There’s no excuse for Apple to have these issues with its iOS other than poor programing and increased lack of care in the quality.

I’ve been having this issue on iPhone 12 Pro even before the iOS 17 update.

I thought upgrading to iPhone 15 Pro would’ve gotten rid of the issue but somehow it got worse.

I’ve tried all the ways suggested but seem to have no major improvement.

How can the “best iPhone yet” in late 2023 still have this issue? Please get it fixed Apple. It’s stuttering and lagging like CRAZY as I’m typing this comment.

This is incorrect. Many of the fixes in this forum have shown to be temporary just like the things they did there at the store, once you go home and start using it again the issue will come back.

Apple isn't "doing this" apple is not fixing it fast enough, its been several updates since the issue was reported. We are seeing it across different generations. It is an OS level issue with their keyboard and correction algorithm.

Its not a solution, at least not for me since I have the same issue with third party keyboards. Try to write at the same time you listening a whatsapp audio and you will see what I mean.

I encourage all of you having this problem to send the feedback to the apple support, otherwise we will be suffering this for a while

I get the same problem... maybe the people that test the phones these days have tiny little finger tips. I've had iPhones since the first and the keyboard was massively better back then.

that said though... the lag issue so many can't get rid of, went away on my iPad Pro 1st after switching off auto correct etc. then came back and went away again... the only problem app was YouTube.

It's now officially reached horrendous proportions. I am using an iPhone 13 Pro 128GB (36GB of spare storage) and now the Keyboard doesn't even appear anymore! In Messages/WhatsApp/X/YouTube/Google, when I press the box in order to type, nothing happens and the app I am using crashes! Restarting the phone temporarily fixes it but after anywhere from 30mins to 3 hours later the Keyboard ceases to work or appear and crashes the app I am trying to type in. A couple of times even a restart hasn't fixed this issue and I have had to restart multiple times in order to get the keyboard to (temporarily) start working again.

After 15 years, it might be time to dump Apple and go for an Android phone. How can problems with such a FUNDAMENTAL component of a phone not be fixed with an immediate patch release update. I think Apple just don't care anymore. This weekend I am dumping my iPhone for good.
