Apple iOS 17.0.2 parental control issue on child's iPad mini 6 messenger images and GIFs not working

We use parental control settings for our son's iPod and daughters iPad. The iPod is on iOS 15.7.9 and has no issues using images/GIFs in messenger. However, our daughter's iPad (which was recently updated to iOS 17.0.2) is hit or miss. Yesterday it was working and now it's not. They have the same parental controls - I'm almost positive. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas? We also use BarkHome connected to both devices, and have images/GIFs enabled for both the devices.

I've tried restarting the iPad and my iPhone multiple times. My iPhone is on the same iOS version as the iPad. I've tried releasing a bunch of parental controls and it still will not work. So I'm not sure that it's even a parental control issue. Especially since our son's iPod is set-up the same and not having this issue.

I'm at a loss of ideas.

Thank you!

Hi mommingtrying,

We'd like to share some suggestions to help you with what sounds like Facebooks Messenger. We recommend checking for any application updates in case there was a compatibility change How to update apps manually on your Apple device – Apple Support. If the app is updated, we further suggest to look How to contact an app developer - Apple Support if this is isolated to just their app to get further info on what needs adjusted to comply with your needs and their expectations.

This parental control is BROKEN. It has been for over 10 months. I watch my kids reach a limit, the device tells them they reach a limit, and it also asks them if they would like more time. They click 15 minutes, and they are off. Fix the glaring issue/bug/eyesore. The fact that an apple device and parental controls do not work is so amateur. Not to mention it is just bad knowing what we know about kids and screen time. It works on Microsoft and Android. Why is this so difficult to fix? Why does it take the Wall Street Journal article to expose Apple’s 10 month hiccup. Users should not have to go through all these steps to stop children from skipping through settings. That is Apple’s engineers job and it falls on Cook. Fix it already. We just took the devices away from our kids. If Apple can’t fix this, why not? I have tried every fix posted here. None of them work. It’s a band aid being offered by Apple to heal a severed leg bleeding out.
