default underline colour

I have an issue that I have solved but found it difficult to solve - hence have shared my problem:

The default colour for underline was white - very annoying and I could not find a solution because everyone says 'just change the underline colour!' which I can do but it meant constantly clicking underline and then changing the colour - not good for workflow! I was unable to find a 'change default underline colour' article or button.

To change a single word's underline colour;

  • select the word you have underlined
  • press 'command' and 'T' which brings up the fonts menu
  • Click on the little underline button (second from left?)
  • select 'colour'
  • choose your preferred colour

This has been stated many places previously...

To change the default underline colour

Select all txt in your document by pressing 'command' and 'A'

then do above

It makes more sense to select an underlined word. Perform your bullets, and then create a new character style that perhaps you name "Blue underline" if you chose a blue color. Optionally assign it the F1-F8 keys as a shortcut. Then save the current document as template, so you will have that new character style present for any future document that uses this custom template.

That way, you can select a block of text, and choose the prior character style, or its assigned function key and be done with the underline color change for a single word or block of selected text.

All of my new Pages documents that I create default to black text and that is also the default underline color for me, not white.
