How to Turn Off Automatic Switch to Speaker on iPhone Calls

My setting is correct. It's on automatic. Still whenever I make an outgoing call the speaker is on by default and I end up hitting my ear.

Settings —> Accessibility —> VoiceOver —> Audio —> Auto select speaker in calls to no

I am having the same issue. This is ridiculous! No setting should be set to cause this unless you want it. I tried both solutions suggested, but to no avail.

This did not solve the issue for me. The phone is already on 'Automatic' and there is not a 'No' option.

I’m having the same issue and it only started doing this in the last month or so. Do you think it has to do with the last OS update?

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to help with phone calls. The correct place to adjust this feature is located under: Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing.

Once you're there, check to make sure "Speaker" isn't selected. If it is, choose "Automatic". Test to see if calls route as expected.

I am having the same issue with iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 17.4.1

are there any known issues on apples end. All my settings are correct.

Same phone and iOS. Exact same problem. It's pretty infuriating. Hopefully Apple can track it down. Every time I make a call with bluetooth, I forget it defaults to speaker. I am reminded when the call starts to ring with my ear next to the speaker. Boy is that sucker loud.

Despite trying all suggested troubleshooting options, I am still encountering this issue where all incoming and outgoing calls are automatically routed to the speakerphone. This problem persists even after attempting the following steps:

• Restarting the iPhone

• Checking and adjusting call audio settings

• Resetting all settings to default.

Device- 15 Pro Max. iOS- 17.4.1
